COLUMBIA–The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) announced today the Late Award application period for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship is open until June 14, 2019. This will be the last chance for current high school seniors to apply for the scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Last year, 3,514 of South Carolina’s outstanding high school seniors were eligible for the prestigious Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. The Palmetto Fellows award is a state-sponsored scholarship established by statute to recognize the state’s academically talented high school seniors and encourage them to attend public or independent colleges in South Carolina. Palmetto Fellows may receive up to $6,700 their first academic year, and up to $7,500 (or $10,000 if in an eligible science/math major) in subsequent years.
The S.C. Commission on Higher Education has provided Palmetto Fellows Scholarship application materials for the Late Award period to each South Carolina high school and Home School Association. Seniors who graduate by the end of the academic year ending in May/June 2019 and who meet the eligibility requirements listed below should contact their high school counselor or Home School Association director immediately about the application information. The Late Award period application deadline is June 14, 2019.
-To be eligible to apply, high school seniors must meet, at a minimum, the following criteria:
-Be a legal resident of South Carolina and be a U.S. citizen/permanent resident (green card holder); and
-Have applied or been accepted for admission to an eligible South Carolina public or independent four-year college/university for the fall term immediately following high school graduation; and
-Meet one of the following requirements:
-Score at least a 1200 on the SAT (or 27 on the ACT) by the June 2019 test administration, earn a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA based on the S.C. Uniform Grading Policy (UGP) at the end of the senior year; and rank in the top six percent of either their sophomore, junior, or senior year; OR
-Score at least 1400 on the SAT (or 32 on the ACT) by the June 2019 test administration and earn a minimum 4.00 cumulative GPA based on the S.C. UGP at the end of the senior year (date calculated on transcript must be June 15, 2019 or earlier)
