Relay For Life Luminary Ceremony Is May 17

Relay For Life of Dillon County was held Saturday, May 4th at Dillon Motor Speedway. The weather was perfect for most of the day.
At 6:00 p.m. Survivors were celebrated. Connie Anderson, cancer survivor, shared her very personal testimony. It wasn’t just about her journey with cancer, but about her journey in life. She shared her personal relationship with Christ, and how you too may have that relationship.

Survivors were each recognized by the number of years that they have survived cancer. At the conclusion of the Survivor Lap and Caregiver Lap, the bottom fell out.
The heavy winds and rain forced us to cancel the rest of the activities, including the Luminary Service.
We are holding a post-Relay Luminary Ceremony on Friday, May 17th, at the Dillon Motor Speedway.  We will begin setting up at 7:00 p.m. and begin the ceremony at nightfall.
This year is the first year that we changed from paper bag luminaries to large plastic cup luminaries. As beautiful as the bags are, they are easily destroyed by even minimal rain or moisture.
With the use of the plastic containers, all luminaries were preserved Saturday which allows the rescheduled Luminary Service.
Please make plans to join us for the beautiful Luminary Service. It will include lighting of the beautiful luminaries that have been purchased, lighting of torches, and reading of the names on each.
Seating will be in the Speedway bleachers.
In case of rain, the Luminary Service will be rescheduled on another date.
The Event Leadership Team would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Ms Annie Grace Davis. Ms Annie Grace performed at Relay For Life, Saturday May 4th, along with other members of Carolina Girls. The crowd has grown to love the Carolina Girls. The group, from Fairmont NC, is made up of senior ladies who share their love of dancing at several area Relay For Life events. Several of the dancers are themselves survivors. Their shirt logo is ‘Dancing For A Cure’. Sadly, Ms Annie Grace was killed Sunday, May 5th in her Fairmont home.
