The Latta Lady Vikings sailed to an 18-1 win over visiting Gray
Collegiate Academy on Wednesday, May 1, in Latta in varsity softball playoff action.
Latta breezed through inning one holding Gray Collegiate Academy scoreless and scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added 2 more runs in the bottom of the second inning before Gray Collegiate could manage to place a run on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Latta added 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning to seal the win in the run-ruled 4-inning game.
Latta’s Arica Gandy pitched 3 strong innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 1, struck out 1, and allowed a run that was not earned. Jayla Jackson pitched the final inning for Latta. She allowed no hits, no runs, struck out no one, and walked 1.
Emme Buzhardt took the loss. She pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 7 hits, walked 6, struck out 5, and allowed 16 runs of which 6 were earned. Mackenzie Thackston pitched .2 inning and allowed 2 hits, 4 walks, no strike outs, and 2 runs of which 1 was earned.
