Shelton Lenwood Thompson

FLORENCE – Shelton Lenwood Thompson, 89, died at McLeod Hospice House on April 1, 2019. Lenwood, also know as “Mutt”, was born May 2, 1929, in Dillon County, South Carolina, the son of the late Don Devon and Madannie Hayes Thompson.
Lenwood married Ramona Marie Huggins of Dillon, on February 4, 1956. He served in the National Guard Army for twenty-three years and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Florence SC.
Lenwood was predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years Ramona and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughters, Laura Suzanne Timmons (Odis), Cynthia Lynn Thompson Streett, Teresa Jane Thompson, aka Rachel Rhinehart; grandchildren, Robin Caulder, Laura Reed (Travis), Wesley Thompson (Lan), Amy Watchous (Eric), Linda Rhinehart; and great-grandchildren, Emily Hughes, Jacob Hughes, Bailey Hughes, Zack Reed, Stella Watchous, Lorelai Watchous, Harper Watchous, and Flynn Watchous.
A private family burial will be at held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Dillon, SC, with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later time. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon, SC is assisting the family.
Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
The family wishes to thank the incredible staff, physicians and volunteers of the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. In addition, a special thanks to Lenwood’s wonderful neighbors, Jody and Wendy Medford for helping him over the years.
