Basketball Playoff Action Update

The Dillon Lady Wildcats edged the Manning Lady Monarchs 30-29 in the varsity basketball state playoff game held in Dillon on Thursday, February 14.
The Lady Wildcats led 5-4 after the first period of play in this low-scoring game. At halftime the Dillon Lady Wildcats found themselves in unfamiliar territory down by 6 points, 17-11.
Dillon opened the third period of play by outscoring Manning 13-2 to take a 23-19 lead. In the first period of play Dillon committed 4 fouls, and Manning committed 2 fouls. Dillon committed 3 fouls in the second period of play while Manning committed 2 fouls.
Dillon committed 5 fouls in the second half, and Manning committed 8 fouls.
Dillon hosted the third round playoffs on Monday, February 18.
Dillon’s Jykya Bell scored a game-high 20 points of which she connected fro six 2-point baskets, one 3-point basket, and 5 free throws. Ja’Rhonda McCrimmon added 5 points, and Shantazia Gordon added 3 points. Chyna Pouncey also hit a 2-point basket.
T. Dow led the Manning Monarchs with 6 points, and M. Jones added 5 points to the scoreboard. S. Logan, S. Junious, and M. Smiling each connected for 4 points in the game. N. Brand and A. Busby each garnered 3 points.

The Lake View Lady Wild Gators advanced in the varsity state basketball playoffs on Thursday, February 14, by sending the Bethune-Bowman Mohawks home having lost 51-21 while visiting Lake View.
The Lady Wild Gators jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the game. By the end of the first period of play Lake View was up 12-4. By halftime Lake View was up 28-8. After 3 periods of play, the Lady Wild Gators were up 38-16. Lake View committed 10 fouls in the first half, and Bethune-Bowman committed 8 fouls. Each team was guilty of 10 fouls in the second half.
Lake View’s Ja’Niyah Waters had a game-high 15 points. Zan’Dasia McNeil connected for 8 points. Mi’lashia Wheeler and Zaiona Henburg each added 7 points to the scoreboard while Janai Ford and Gwendaisa Page each contributed 5 points. Jaleya Ford hit for 4 points.
The Mohawks’ Shantania Shoks led the team with 6 points, and Alexis Johnson, Zanaisha Davis, and Neysa Patrick each added 5 points.
