The region first place Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors fought tenaciously and claimed a 62-56 victory over Robert E. Lee in the Region Tournament held in Dillon on Friday, February 8.
In the two regular season games between these two teams, Robert E. Lee won both.
The score was close in this contested battle between these two teams. As each team raced back and forth the basketball court in the fast-paced game, the excitement was tense.
After the first period of action the score was knotted at 16. At halftime, little had changed as the score was tied at 20. After 3 periods of play, Robert E. Lee held a slim 1-point advantage, 37-36. With 6:42 remaining in the game, Dillon Christian School had a 7-point lead, 44-37. Dillon Christian School’s Anna Thompson led the Lady Warriors with 21 points of which 18 of those points came from 3-point shots. Taren DuBose added 15 points as she connected for three 2-point shots, two 3-point shots, and 3 free throws. Sara Freeman hit four 2-point shots and 3 free throws for 11 points. Lizzie Outlar added 8 points to the scoreboard for the Lady Warriors while Sarah Stone connected for 6 points. The crowd enjoyed this thrilling game.

The Dillon Christian School Warriors boys fell victim to the Pee Dee Academy Eagles 58-47 on Friday, February 8, in Dillon in the Region Tournament.
With 5:15 remaining in the second period of play, the Warriors found themselves down 22-10. Although Dillon continued to fight an uphill battle, by halftime Dillon trailed 28-17. By the end of the third period of play, Dillon was down by 18 points, 49-31. Dillon did not give up and closed the gap to 11 points at the end of the game.
The Eagles’ Ryan Brewer had a game-high 18 points of which he connected on four 2-point baskets, two 3-point baskets, and 4 free throws. Reese Webster pumped in four 2-point baskets, one 3-point basket, and 4 free throws for 15 points. Michael Martin added 6 points while Caleb Oakley connected for 4 points. Connor Gasque also sank a free throw for a point.
The Warriors’ Ian Bethea knocked down 15 points. He sank a 2-point basket, two 3-point baskets, and 7 free throws. Phillip Campbell connected for 12 points. He sank two 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 5 free throws. Chad DuBose contributed 9 points while Mason Bailey added 4 points. Jason Chen connected for 3 points, and Jacob DuBose and Walt Bailey each had 2 points in the game.

The Latta Lady Vikings dealt the visiting Kingstree ladies varsity basketball team a 43-24 loss in the final regular season game on Wednesday, February 6, in Latta. Latta jumped out to an early 12-2 lead after the first period of play. By halftime, Latta led 21-9. After 3 periods of play, Latta had a 22-point lead. Latta’s Moya McDuffie led all scorers with 21 points of which she connected on four 2-point baskets, two 3-point baskets, and 7 free throws. Adaya Gordon added 6 points on a 3-point basket and 3 free throws. Ri’ana Green connected for 5 points on a 2-point basket and a 3-point basket. DeKhasia Green placed 4 points on the scoreboard, and KeAsia Delrey added 3. Eziara Grice and Rayne Nolan each contributed 2 points to the total. Z Burgess led Kingstree with 6 points, and Y. Gamble added 5 points. J. Dansby connected for 4 points while E. Hudson added 3 points. A. McKnight, K. Houston, and K. Mention each garnered 2 points in the game. Latta committed 9 fouls in the first half and 3 fouls in the second half. Kingstree committed 4 fouls in the first half a nd 10 fouls in the second half

The Lake View Wild Gators handed visiting Creek Bridge a 75-68 loss on Wednesday, February 6, in Lake View.
With 4:43 remaining in the first period of play, Lake View was up 13-6. Lake View’s Willie Wheeler sank a 3-point shot as the buzzer sounded to end the first period of play that gave Lake View a 22-15 lead.
Lake View committed 5 fouls while Creek Bridge committed 2 fouls in the first few moments of play.
The fast-paced game was enjoyed by all.
In the second period of play, Lake View committed 4 fouls, and Creek Bridge committed 2 fouls. By halftime, Lake View was up 41-29.

The Lady Wild Gators came from behind to hand visiting Creek Bridge a 54-48 loss in Lake View’s final regular season varsity game held on Senior Night in Lake View.
The Lady Wild Gators found themselves down 6-0 in the early moments of this hard-fought, exciting game. By the end of the first period of play, Lake View was down 10-5 but had only committed 3 fouls to Creek Bridge’s 8 fouls.
With 4:25 remaining in the first half, Lake View had closed the gap to only a 1-point deficit, 15-14. By halftime, Lake View trailed by 3 points, 25-22.
Lake View knotted the score at 27 in the first moments of the third period of play. However, once again, Creek Bridge slowly picked up a 3-point lead, 36-33. This action continued through the third period of play with Creek Bridge on top 39-37.
The Lady Wild Gators knotted the score once again at 39 in the early moments of the final period. With 5:23 remaining in the game, Lake View was finally up 41-39. With 3:07 left in the game, Lake View held a 45-39 lead. Lake View managed to take an 8-point lead with only 39 seconds remaining to be played.

The Dillon Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early lead over the visiting Wade Hampton Ladies and handed them a 53-28 loss in Dillon on Monday, February 11, in a little over an hour in the first round of the state playoffs for varsity basketball.
After the first period of play Dillon held an impressive 16-2 lead. By halftime Dillon led 31-11. After 3 periods of play, Dillon was up 45-20. Dillon’s Ja’Rhonda McCrimmon lead all scorers with 16 points of which she connected on seven 2-point baskets and one 3-point basket. Jykya Bell add 16 points for the Lady ‘Cats of which she also hit seven 2-point baskets and sank 2 free throws. Shantazia Gordon added 7 points as she connected for two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws. Chyna Pouncey placed 5 points on the scoreboard, and Shaniya Page added 3. Alyse Hines and Maleah Carter each contributed 2 points while Deanna Lane sank a free throw.
Wade Hampton’s S. Kinard placed 12 points on the scoreboard as she connected for three 3-point baskets, one 2-point basket, and a free throw. Smith-Gross and R. Rivers each added 4 points. T. Rovain and J. LeSane each had 3 points in the game. C. Freeman placed 2 points on the scoreboard.
Dillon committed 6 fouls in the first half and 5 fouls in the second half while Wade Hampton committed 4 fouls in the first half and 6 fouls in the second half.
Dillon will host Manning tonight (Thursday, February 14) at 6:30 p.m..

The Latta Lady Vikings varsity basketball season came to an end on Tuesday, February 12, at the hands of Woodland of Dorchester, S.C., who handed them a 73-50 loss in the first round playoff while on their court.
Woodland led 19-11 after the first period of play and by halftime Latta had cut the lead to 5 points.
Woodland outscored Latta 25-9 in the third period of play.
Latta was unable to overcome the deficit. Ri’Ana Green led Latta in scoring with 17 points of which she connected on eight 2-point shots and 1 free throw. DeKhasia Green scored 12 points of which 10 of those were from 2-point baskets. Moya McDuffie connected for 10 points of which she hit two 3-point baskets. Rayne Nolan added 5 points to the scoreboard, ad Adaya Gordon and Kadaisha Wheeler each had 3 points.
Woodland’s Taniah Washington and Kimani Green each scored 14 points while Tylieah Smith connected for 9 points. Mercedes Ravenell added 8 points to the scoreboard, and Ronda Simmons added 7 points.
Nyra Govan and Teona Goodwin each hit for 5 points. Tyleah Moover garnered 2 points in the game.
Latta committed 6 fouls in the first half, and Woodland committed 4 fouls in the first half.
Each team committed 10 fouls in the second half.

The Dillon Lady Wildcats picked up a win over the Aynor Blue Jackets in Dillon on Friday, January 25.
Dillon’s Santazia Gordon controlled the tip-off and Dillon was off and running and controlled the tempo of the game throughout the evening.
The Lady Wildcats sank twenty 2-point baskets, one 3-point basket, and only 1 free throw in the game.
Chyna Pouncey and Shantazia Gordon each scored 11 points while Ja’Ronda McCrimmon connected for 10 points. Jykya Bell and Lacy Simmons each had 4 points. Alyse Hines added 2 points, and Shaniya Page added a point.
Each team committed 7 fouls.
Dillon will travel to Lake City today (Tuesday, January 29) for a 6:00 p.m. game.

The Dillon Wildcats handed the visiting Aynor Blue Jackets a 70-45 loss in Dillon on Friday, January 25.
Dillon controlled the tip-off and held a commanding lead after the first period of play and had only committed one foul while Aynor had committed 3 fouls. Dillon managed to add a little more distance by halftime.
Dillon’s Zy’Aire Charles led all scorers with 18 points while Jonquell Lampley added 12 points for the Wildcats. Daizon Alford connected for 11 points, and Ladson added 8 points. Kendrick Cabbagestalk placed 3 points on the scoreboard, and Tyquzz McRae, O. McKinley, Mella, and McDowell each had 2 points.
Dillon is 5-7 and 3-3 in Region 6-3A.

The visiting Mullins Lady Auctioneers handed the Latta Lady Vikings a 63-43 loss on Thursday, January 24, in Latta
The Lady Auctioneers took a 21-10 first period lead. Latta managed to cut a point off the lead by halftime by outscoring Mullins 12-11 in the second period of play. Mullins increased the lead to 13 points, 46-33, after 3 periods of play.
Mullins’ J. Nichols led all scorers with 25 points in the game. T. Lasane added 15 points while K. Friday connected for 8 points. J. Sindab placed 7 points on the scoreboard. J. Swinton and K. James each added 3 points. A. Reed also contributed 2 points for the Auctioneers.
Latta’ Moya McDuffie scored 12 pints while Ri’Ana Green and DeKhasia Green each hit for 10 points. Adaya Gordon and Rayne Nolan each had 4 points in the contest. Kadaisha Wheeler added 3 points for the Lady Vikings.
Latta committed 3 fouls in the first half while Mullins committed 5 fouls in the first half. Latta was guilty of 5 fouls in the second half, and Mullins was guilty of 6 fouls.

The undefeated Dillon Lady Wildcats returned home on Tuesday, January 29, with a 57-10 win over the Lake City Lady Panthers.
Dillon jumped out to an early lead and continued to score and maintain a large lead.
Dillon’s Jykya Bell led all scorers with 16 points. Lacy Simmons added 7 points for Dillon. The Lady Wildcats’ Chyna Pouncy and Shantazia Gordon each scored 6 points in the game while Maleah Carter, Ja’Rhonda McCrimmon, Shaniya Page, and Andrianna Irwin each added 4 points to the scoreboard. Alyse Hines and Deanna Lane garnered 3 points each.
Jada Dickson led the Panthers with 4 points. Jada Montgomery, Jasmine Butler, and Iyana Davis each had 2 points in the game.
Dillon is 13-0, 7-0 in Region 6-3A.

The Dillon Wildcats varsity boys basketball team returned home on Tuesday, January 29, having lost to the Lake City Panthers 59-52.
Although Dillon led 14-11 after the first period of play, Lake City took control of the second period of play and by halftime was up 26-21. Each team scored 16 points in the third period, and in the last period of play, Lake City outscored Dillon by 2 points.
Dillon’s Zy’Aire Charles led all scorers with 15 points. The Wildcats’ Justin Green added 11 points while Corrian Wright added 7 points. Daizon Alford connected for 6 points, and Christian Mella added 3 points to the scoreboard. Jonquell Lampley, Shamareon McKinnon, Omar McKinley, Tyquan King, and Keshawn Greer each had 2 points.
Lake City was led in scoring by Stephon Rose. Hilshon Bailey and Malik Hailey each added 10 points for the Panthers. McClam added 8 points, Avery 7 points, Howard 5 points, and McIntosh 3 points.
Dillon is 4-8 for the season and3-4 in Region 6-3A. Dillon will host Cheraw on Friday, February 1, at 6:00 p.m.

The Carvers Bay Bears returned home from Latta with a 58-36 win over the Latta Vikings varsity basketball team on Tuesday, January 29.
Carvers Bay held a 5-3 lead after the first period of play. By halftime, Carvers Bay maintained a slim 2-point lead in this low-scoring first half of action. After 3 periods of play, Carvers Bay had increased the lead by 12 points, 35-23.
Latta only committed 1 foul in the first half, and Carvers Bay committed 2 fouls. The third period of play saw 6 fouls by Carvers Bay and 4 fouls by Latta.
