The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors picked up a 53-44 win over the visiting Marlboro Academy Lady Dragons on Tuesday, January 15, in varsity basketball action.
The Lady Warriors found themselves trailing 14-11 after the first period of play. By halftime, Dillon Christian School was leading by 2 points, 24-22. After 3 periods of play, the Lady Warriors were up by 2 points, 39-37.
The Lady Warriors controlled the tip-off and placed the first point on the scoreboard on a free throw by Lizzie Outlar.
The Warriors’ Taren Dubose led all scorers with 29 points of which 21 of those points came from 3-point shots. Anna Thompson followed with 10 points. Sara Freeman added 6 to the scoreboard, and Lizzie Outlar added 4. Sarah Stone also hit a basket for 2 points.
The Dragons’ Ragan Liles connected for 12 points, and Sara White placed 11 on the scoreboard. Mattie Liles sank three 2-points shots and made 3 of 4 free throws for a total 10 points. Laney McLaurin added 6 points while Mary-Steven Blackmon connected for 4 points. Zara Walters also got on the scoreboard with 2 points of her own.
The Warriors committed 7 fouls in the first half and 6 fouls in the second half.
The Dragons committed 6 fouls in the first half and 8 fouls in the second half.
Spectators enjoyed the fast-paced game with some great shots and some great defense exhibited by both teams.
Dillon Christian School will travel to Maranatha today, (Thursday, January 17).
