Greenlawn And Magnolia Cemeteries Luminary Service and Kannaday Funeral Home Remembrance Service Held

The fifth annual Greenlawn and Magnolia Cemeteries Luminary Service and Kannaday Funeral Home Remembrance Service was held, December 7, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. to remember the loved ones who have passed away in the past twelve months.

This service was designed to remember the legacies that our love ones left behind and the memories that we treasure in our hearts.
A table was placed in the chapel to represent the table that was prepared in Psalm Twenty-Three. On the table a candle was lit for each person who has passed in the previous twelve months. Family members had an opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of their loved one prior to the service. The center table held five memorial candles that represented the following: tragic events (including mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters), First Responders (Police, Fire and EMS) and the military. The roads were lined with hundreds of luminaries to show that we can have light along our path in this world. Several people helped with lighting the luminaries and preparing for the event that included: Lora McInnis, Samantha Smallwood, Deborah Fahl, Kelli Smallwood-Daniels, and Jimmy Elliott. Also five missionaries from three states and Canada helped with preparing for the service: Elder Craig Floyd, Sister Jane Floyd, Elder Thompson, Elder Baker, and Elder Kidner.
The Luminary Service was held in the Kannaday Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon.
The service opened with a prayer and remarks provided by Rev. Christopher H. Daniels. The Message of Legacy was given by Rev. Henry Altman, who provided hope for families during the Christmas Season.
Dr. Rev. Eugen “Buddy” Bach and his wife, Mrs. Jenny Bach provided the music. The reading of names was done by Mr. Ryan L. “R.L” Kannaday, Jr. The final presentation from the funeral home was titled, “Christmas in Heaven as a Hero” where every name was presented along with pictures. The congregational hymn was “Silent Night” followed by closing remarks and prayer from Rev. Daniels.
After the service each family received a poinsettia to carry home and was able to enjoy refreshments provided by the Kannaday Family.
The families also had an opportunity to walk or ride through to view the luminaries in both cemeteries and place additional luminaries on any grave.
