Mount Calvary Baptist Church celebrated their 13th annual closing AWANA ceremony on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. It is an incredible program that works with kids, youth, and adults. Clubbers come to the program and enjoy fun games and fellowship while learning God’s Word and memorizing scripture.
Keith Coward, AWANA director, thanked everyone for their being at the ceremony and allowing the children to participate.
Coward, with the assistance of Emily Mew, made the presentation of the awards.
During the ceremony, each Clubber shared a verse he/she believes will help throughout life. The verses were organized and presented in an order that shares the gospel.
Clubbers received a ribbon and certificate awards for participation and book completions. Overall points are also recognized and given to top clubbers.
Each Spark participant received an AWANA participation ribbon and a certificate. Some also received a trophy. Noah Jackson received a trophy for his accomplishments. Carson McKenzie received a certificate and a third place ribbon. Edeigh Walters received a certificate, a trophy, and a second place ribbon. Jude Mew received a certificate, a trophy, a first place, and a plaque for completing all three of his Sparks books in three years.
T & T recipients also received an AWANA participation ribbon and a certificate. Maddy Miller came in third place in points and received a certificate, a trophy, and a third place ribbon. Chayse Walters received a certificate, a trophy, and a first place ribbon as she tied for first place. Heath Mew also received a certificate, a trophy, and a first place ribbon as he tied for first place.
The special guest speaker for the AWANA celebration was Genesis Anderson who gave her testimony. Genesis is attending Charleston Southern, a faith-based institution, where she will be a sophomore in the fall.
Coward thanked all who helped with the AWANA group including the youth volunteers, the kitchen staff, the Cubbie and Awana Bees director and staff, the Sparks director and staff, the T & T staff and director, the games director, and the listeners.
Special recognition was given to Miss Linda McKenzie, children’s director.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Rev. Harold Cooke, presented the message from II Timothy, chapter 2, verse 15.
