City Council Passes First Reading Of Ordinance Prohibiting Raising And Keeping Of Farm Animals

The Dillon City Council passes the first reading of an ordinance prohibiting the keeping and raising of farm animals within the city limits.
The ordinance states:
Section 6-4-7 (raising and Keeping Farm Animals Prohibited).
1. It shall be unlawful and prohibited for any person to raise, keep, maintain or have in his or her possession any farm animals such as, but not limited to chickens, turkeys, hogs, pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, mules, goats, and sheep upon any premises within the jurisdiction of the city limits of Dillon.
2. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of an offense and shall be subject to a fine of up to five hundred dollars ($500) or imprisonment for not more than thirty (30) days upon conviction. Each day of violation shall be considered a separate offense. Punishment for violation shall be considered a separate offense. Punishment for violation shall not relieve the offender of liability for delinquent penalties and costs provided for herein.
Anyone currently with a farm animal would be grandfathered in, but wouldn’t be able to replace the animal.
