PHOTO GALLERY: Lake View Baseball v. East Clarendon

After scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Lake View Wild Gators handed the East Clarendon Wolverines a 9-4 loss in the first round of the Class A Lower State in Lake View on Thursday, May 3.
Lake View’s Deonte Roberts retired the first 3 batters he faced with 2 strike outs and the third batter hitting a grounder to the pitcher.
The Wolverines’ starting pitcher walked the second batter, Webb Cardwell, after Lake View’s Thomas Skipper hit 1 to left for out 1. Deonte Bridgette was hit by a pitch. Jett Lewis hit 1 to left and was safe at first due to an error. However, a run scored. Peyton Jackson arrived at first safely due to a throwing error and 2 runs scored. Jordan King hit 1 by third for a single. Hunter Herlong hit 1 to short center for a double and a rbi. Rameer Sowell garnered a walk, and the bases were loaded.
East Clarendon replaced the starting pitcher with #12 who walked Thomas Skipper and a run scored. Webb Cardwell was hit by a pitch, and a run scored. Another run scored on a passed ball, and Lake View led 7-0 after 1 inning.
East Clarendon was once again retired 3 up, 3 down.
In the bottom of the second inning, Lake View was also retired 3 up, 3 down.
In the bottom of the third inning, Hunter Herlong hit 1 to center for a double. After a sac bunt by Jonathan Davis and a passed ball, Hunter arrived in a head-first slide safely at home.
In the top of the fourth inning, Lake View’s Deonte Roberts began to struggle. East Clarendon’s #5 garnered a walk, followed by #15 and #12 who each was hit by a pitch, and the bases were loaded when a balk occurred scoring a run. #18 for the Wolverines hit 1 to deep center for a double and a rbi.
Lake View’s Coach Kip Herlong replaced Roberts with Thomas Skipper. The Wolverines managed to place to more runs on the scoreboard in the inning to cut Lake View’s lead to 8-4. Lake View added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 9-4.
Deonte Roberts picked up the win for Lake View. He pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 hit, 4 runs that were earned, walked 1, and struck out 5.
Adrian Singletary was tagged with the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 4 hits, 7 runs that were earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Lake View connected for 7 hits in the game with Hunter Herlong picking up a double, a single, and a rbi.
East Clarendon connected for 5 hits of which Ashton Mixon had a double and a rbi in 3 at-bats.
Lake View faced Hannah-Pamplico on Saturday, May 5, at home.
