Lake View Softball Shut Out By East Clarendon

The Lake View Lady Wild Gators suffered a 16-0 shut out in varsity softball in 6 innings at home on Friday, May 4, to the East Clarendon Lady Wolverines in Class A Lower State playoffs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Wolverines’ #13 hit a grounder between third and the shortstop for a single. The runner advanced to second on a passed ball. The Wolverines #8 hit a grounder by the shortstop for a single, and runners were on the corners with 1 out. Quickly the runner on first advanced to second. East Clarendon’s Marleigh Floyd hit a sac grounder to second and picked up a rbi.
Lake View’s Payton Bell hit 1 to center for a single in the bottom of the second inning. Lake View’s Milashia Wheeler popped up 1 to third for out 1. Lake View’s Kryston James hit a grounder near second base that was fielded by the shortstop who tagged the base and threw to first to complete a double play to end the inning.
In the top of the third inning, East Clarendon managed to get 4 runs. #21 for the Wolverines hit a grounder by third for a single followed by #9 who also hit a grounder by third for a single followed by #33 who hit a hot 1 to the pitcher. The bases were now loaded with only 1 out. #14 hit a sac fly to center and picked up a rbi that left runners on second and third with 2 outs. #8 hit 1 by third for a double and 2 rbi.
In the bottom of the third, the Lady Wild Gators’ Abby Smith hit1 to right for a single. Bailey Miller for Lake View hit a fly ball to center for an out, and the center fielder threw to first before the runner could return to complete the double play.
A good running catch by the left out fielder for Lake View stopped a scoring threat by East Clarendon in the top of the fourth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, East Clarendon’s #10 hit 1 by third for a single, and #16 hit 1 between the shortstop and third base for a single. #21 garnered a walk, and the bases were loaded. The Wolverines’ #9 hit 1 to left for a double and 2 rbi. #33 garnered a walk, and the bases were loaded again. #14 hit a hopper over third for a double and 2 rbi. #17 hit 1 over the infield to left for a single and a rbi. #8 hit a hopper over third for a single and a rbi. Marleigh Floyd hit 1 to left for a single and a rbi. #19 hit 1 by third for a single and a rbi. East Clarendon’s #16 garnered a walk, and once again the bases were loaded. #21 hit 1 down the third base line to the left field fence for a double and 3 rbi. After 5 and one-half innings, East Clarendon held a 16-0 lead.
Lake View was retired 3 up, 3 down in the bottom of the sixth inning.
East Clarendon’s Abby Reardon was perfect at the plate with 3 hits and 3 rbi in 3 at-bats. Elly Floyd connected for a double, a single, and 3 rbi in her 4 at-bats while Caitlin Timmons picked up 2 rbi, a double and a single in 5 at-bats. Olivia Singletary had a double, 2 singles, and 2 rbi in 4 at-bats. Kinsley Driggers had a double and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats.
Marleigh Floyd picked up the win for the Wolverines. She pitched the entire game and allowed 3 hits, no runs, walked no one, and struck out 3.
Grace Floyd suffered the loss for Lake View. She also pitched the entire game and allowed 16 runs of which 12 were earned, allowed 15 hits, walked 5, and struck out no one. Each team committed an error in the game.
