The Latta Vikings’ McLeod Carmichael pitched a 1-hit, 1-0 shutout against Barnwell on Thursday, May 3, in Class 2A lower state playoffs in Barnwell.
Carmichael pitched 7 innings and allowed 1 hit, struck out 9, walked 2, and did not allow a run.
S. Pritchard suffered the loss. He pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, struck out 10, walked 4, and allowed only 1 run that was not earned.
Latta’s lone run came in the top of the first inning.
Corley connected for a hit in the sixth inning in his 2 at-bats for Barnwell.
Latta committed 1 error while Barnwell was guilty of 4 errors.
Latta’s Russ Rogers connected for 2 singles, garnered a walk, and scored a run in his 4 plate appearances while Jordan Hayes singled and garnered a walk in his 3 plate appearances. Hanahan Defeats Lady Wildcats
Hanahan sent the Dillon Lady Wildcats home on Wednesday, May 2, with a no-hit, 10-0, 5-inning varsity softball game in Class 3A District VII playoffs to end Dillon’s season at 15 wins and 12 losses.
Hanahan placed 5 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, 2 in the second inning, 1 in the third, and 2 in the fifth inning off of 15 hits.
Dillon did not commit an error in the game while Hanahan was guilty of only 1.
D. Siegling picked up the win. She pitched 5 innings and allowed no runs, no hits, walked no one, and struck out 4.
Monasia Sowells was charged with the loss. She pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and allowed 15 hits, 10 runs that were earned, walked 3, and struck out no one.

Latta Softball Loses To Barnwell
Latta returned home on Saturday, May 5, after suffering a 6-2 loss to Barnwell in Barnwell in the Class 2A lower state varsity softball playoffs.
Although Latta connected for 7 hits in the game and held Barnwell to 6 hits, Latta was not able to place the needed runs on the scoreboard for the win.
Barnwell placed scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead and added 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning before Latta was able to get a run across home in the top of the sixth inning and managed to get another run on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning.
Latta’s Madison Owens connected for a home run and a rbi in 3 at-bats while Kyra Grant also picked up a rbi and 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
K. Brown picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings, and allowed 7 hits, 2 runs that were earned, walked 2, and struck out 4.
Arica Gandy was tagged with the loss. She pitched 6 inning, and allowed 6 hits, 2 runs that were both earned, walked 2, and struck out 4.
Latta has won 22 games and lost 5 this season.
