The Latta Vikings picked up a 5-2 win over the visiting Johnsonville Flashes on Wednesday, April 18, in Latta in varsity baseball action.
Latta’ McLeod Carmichael was the winning pitcher. He pitched the entire 7-inning game and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs of which were earned, walked 1, and struck out 9.
Lane Brown suffered the loss. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 9 hits, 5 runs of which were earned, walked 2, and struck out 5.
Latta placed the first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning and added another run in the bottom of the third inning. Johnsonville responded with a run in the top of the fourth inning to close the gap to only 1 run. The Flashes added another run in the top of the fifth inning to knot the score at 2. However, Latta placed 3 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth.
Latta’s Pierce Watson connected for a double, 2 rbi, and scored a run in his 3 at-bats while Chandler Matthews was perfect at the plate with a single, a double, a rbi, and scored a run in his 2 at-bats.
