Lady Warriors Hand Loss To Trinity-Byrnes
The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors handed Trinity-Bynes a 10-3 loss in 7 innings behind the pitching of freshman Lindsay Branch.
Lindsay pitched the complete 7-inning game throwing 116 pitches while recording 6 strike outs, 3 walks, and allowing 8 hits.
She aided the win with 2 singles and 2 rbi in the game.
Trinity-Byrnes scored a run in the top of the first inning that was answered by Dillon Christian School in the bottom of the first inning. Trinity-Byrnes added another run in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Trinity-Byrnes closed the gap to only 1 run in the top of the third inning and held the Dillon Christian School Warriors scoreless in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Warriors held Trinity-Byrnes with no runs in the top of the fourth inning and found themselves placing 5 big runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 9-3.
Trinity-Byrnes could not muster any offense in the top of the fifth inning but the Dillon Christian School Warriors placed another run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. This would be the last run scored in the game.
The Lady Warriors’ Janie Altman, a sophomore, batted lead-off and connected for 4 hits in 4 at-bats with 3 runs scored and 3 rbi. She completed the cycle with a triple in the first inning, a home run in the second inning, a single in the fourth inning, and double in the fifth inning. Dillon Christian School’s sophomore Shayla Hunt garnered a single in the first, third, and fourth innings with a rbi and a stolen base in her 4 trips to the plate.
The Lady Warriors’ Sarah Martin connected for a single and a double in her 3 at-bats.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors will travel to Fairmont on Thursday, March 22, for a 5:00 p.m. game.
DCS Junior Varsity Picks Up 14-1 Win
The Dillon Christian School Junior Varsity baseball team picked up a 14-1 win over Trinity-Byrnes in a game played in Dillon on Friday, March 14.
The Warriors led 12-1 after 2 innings of play.
Trinity-Byrnes was held scoreless in the top of the third inning behind the pitching of Trent Johnson.
The Warriors’ #1 garnered a walk and managed to steal second. The Warriors’ #2 hit one to left for a single and a rbi#4 for Dillon Christian School hit a grounder between third and shortstop and picked up a rbi. #4 quickly advanced to second on a steal and was now in scoring position. However, the Warriors were retired for the inning after picking up two runs and now led 14-1 which would be the final.
DCS Boys Edge Out Trinity-Byrnes
he Dillon Christian School Warriors edged Trinity-Byrnes 8-6 in varsity baseball action played in Dillon on Friday, March 16.
Trinity-Byrnes’ lead-off leader, #15, hit one between first and second to get on base. #3 for Trinity-Byrnes garnered a walk. #32 for Trinity-Byrnes hit one to second and the runner was out at second on a fielder’s choice but runners were now on the corners with 2 outs. The scoring threat ended when #18 for Trinity-Byrnes hit a hopper to second for out 3.
The Trinity-Byrnes’ first baseman and catcher collided when attempting to catch a foul fly ball between home and first. Thankfully, both were not injured.
Ian Patterson for Dillon was hit by a pitch and was the first base runner for the Warriors. He quickly stole second. However, there would be no scoring as no other batter got on base.
After one inning of play, the game was knotted at zero.
Trinity-Byrnes was not able to muster any scoring in the top of the second inning.
However, that was not to be the case for the Warriors in the bottom of the inning as they placed 5 runs on the scoreboard.
Dillon’s lead-off batter garnered a walk. John Rourke also picked up a walk for the Warriors. Jared Ivey for Dillon hit a grounder to shortstop, and the runner was out at third. Ian Patterson for Dillon hit a hot one by third base for a double and 2 rbi. Dillon’s Barnes Causey hit one by second and picked up a rbi.
After 2 innings, the Warriors led 5-0.
Trinity-Byrnes fought back and closed the gap.
After 5 and one-half innings, Dillon Christian School led 8-6 which would be the final score at the end of the game.
Dillon Christian School will host Pee Dee Academy, defending 2A state baseball champs.
Wildcats Win
On a very cold night in Latta on Wednesday, March 14, the Dillon Wildcats scored 5 runs in the final inning to claim the win over the Latta Vikings.
The Dillon Wildcats scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning when A’Doshia Graves hit a fielder’s choice grounder and arrived at first safely. Graves stole second. Jayla Goodwin hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi.
The Latta Vikings placed on a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Madison Owens arrived at first on an error. A Latta player hit a fly to right and picked up the rbi.
After 2 outs in the top of the second inning, Nyeisha Wilson arrived at first on a bunt and managed to steal second and third. However, that threat was stopped on a grounder to the pitcher to end the inning.
Latta’s Lauren Webster arrived at first on a error to begin the bottom of the second inning. The next batter bunted safely to place runners on the corners with no outs. The next batter arrived at first on an error and a run scored. Lauren Webster hit a fly over third that was caught by the shortstop for out 1. Another batter arrived at first on another error. Before anyone knew it, Latta had placed 3 runs on the scoreboard to take 4-1 lead after 2 innings.
Neither team could muster any offense in the third inning.
Dillon managed to score 2 runs in the top of the fourth inning. Skyler McCoy hit a hot 1 up the middle for a single. Qyiesha Wilson hit 1 to left for a single. Nyiesha Wilson hit 1 to center that scored 2 runs. Dillon had cut Latta’s lead to only 1 run, 4-3.
Madison Owens again arrived safely at first on a throwing error and scampered to second. She advanced to third on a sacrifice hit. Kaleigh Caulder hit 1 to center and slid safely into third with a rbi. Latta’s Camryn Sawyer hit 1 to left and was robbed of a base hit on a great catch by the left fielder to end the inning. Latta now led 5-3.
Neither team placed to score a run in the fifth inning.
Latta placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
The Dillon bats came alive in the top of the seventh inning and place 5 runs on the scoreboard to take an 8-6 lead.
Latta was not able to score in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dillon’s Monasia Sowells pitched the entire 7 innings to pick up the win. She allowed 8 hits, 6 runs of which only 1 was earned, walked 2, and struck out 3.
Arica Gandy was tagged with the loss. She also pitched the entire 7 innings. She allowed 9 hits, 8 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 2.
Dillon’s Nyeisha Wilson was perfect at the plate with 3 hits including a triple and 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Skyler McCoy managed a single, a double, and 2 rbi in her 4 trips to the plate.
Camryn Sawyer led Latta with a single, a double, and a rbi in her 4 at-bats. Kaleigh Caulder connected for a triple and 2 rbi in her 4 trips to the plate.
Latta is 6-2 for the season and 1-0 in Region 7-2A.
Dillon will host Latta on Monday, March 19, at 7:00 p.m.
Vikings Get Win
The Latta Lady Vikings came from behind to win 8-7 over the Dillon Lady Wildcats in junior varsity softball action played in Latta on Wednesday, March 14.
Latta managed 9 hits while holding Dillon to 4 hits.
Latta committed 6 errors, and Dillon committed 3 errors.
After 4 and one-half innings Dillon led 7-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Latta’s Jordan Perritt hit 1 to left for a double. Ragan Bethea hit a home run to pick up 2 rbi to close the gap to 3. Breleigh Grant hit 1 to left for a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice. Gracyn Hyatt hit 1 to right that got by and 2 runs scored to close the gap to only 1 run. Elizabeth Brown hit 1 to left for double and rbi to tie the game at 7 each. Allison Carter hit 1 to short right for single and rbi. Latta took the lead 8-7 at this point.
Dillon was retired in the top of the seventh inning in 1-2-3 fashion as the first 2 hitters flied out, and the final batter grounded out.
Latta won the game 8-7.
Jena Stutler picked up the win for Latta. She pitched the entire 7 innings. She allowed 4 hits, 7 runs, struck out 10, and walked 1.
Logan Grice was charged with the loss. She pitched 6 innings. She allowed 9 hits, 8 runs, and struck out 4.
Latta will host Johnsonville on Tuesday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m. Dillon will travel to Hartsville on Thursday, March 22, at 5:00 p.m.
Loris Falls To Lady Cats
The Dillon Lady Wildcats handed the Loris Lions a 10-0 loss in a 10-run rule, 6-inning game in Dillon on Friday, March 16
Both teams could not muster any offense in the first inning but Dillon managed to score a run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
No one scored again until Dillon placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Dillon’s big inning came in the bottom of the fifth inning when 6 runs crossed home plate.
The lady Wildcats added 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the game.
Dillon managed 13 hits while holding Loris to only 2 hits.
Dillon did not commit any errors in the game while Loris was guilty of 4 errors.
The Lady Wildcats’ Qyasia Wilson was perfect at the plate with 3 hits in 3 at-bats including a home run and 2 rbi while Emilee Price connected for 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate including a triple and 2 rbi. Skyler McCoy garnered a double in 3 at-bats.
Monasia Sowells picked up the win for Dillon. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 1 hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out 6.
Loris’ Brooks was tagged for the loss. She pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and allowed 13 hits, 10 runs of which 6 were earned, walked 1, and struck out 3.
Dillon will host Aynor today (Tuesday, March 20) at 6:30 p.m.
Dillon is 7-3 for the season and 2-0 in Region 6-3A.
Wildcats Hand Loss To Loris
The Dillon Wildcats won 9-2 over Loris in varsity baseball in a game played in Dillon on Friday, March 16.
The Dillon Wildcats held Loris scoreless in the top of the first inning and managed to get a run across home plate in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Dillon once again held Loris without a score in the top of the second inning and placed 5 big runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning.
The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the third inning and 2 more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Loris tacked on 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Dillon managed 9 hits in the game while holding Loris to 4 hits.
Dillon’s Davis Cook connected for a double and 2 rbi in his 3 at-bats while Ty’Quan Rogers garnered 2 hits and a rbi in his 4 trips to the plate.
Dillon committed 4 errors while Loris was guilty of only 2 errors.
Dillon’s Tristan Brigman picked up the win. He pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 hit, no runs, walked 4, and struck out 7.Tanner Kennedy was tagged with the loss. He pitched 2 innings, allowed 7 hits, 6 runs of which were earned, walked 1, and struck out 3.
Dillon will host Aynor tonight (Tuesday, March 20) at 6:30 p.m.
Dillon Suffers Loss
Dillon suffered a 6-4 loss to the East Clarendon Wolverines at home on Thursday, March15, with the tying runs on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning.
East Clarendon scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning and added another run in the top of the third inning. Dillon answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the third inning to knot the score at 2.
The score remained that way until the top of the fifth inning when the Wolverines managed to place 2 runs on the scoreboard. East Clarendon added 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-2 lead over Dillon.
The Lady Wildcats added 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 2 runs. However, there would be no scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Dillon team.
Marleigh Floyd picked up the win for East Clarendon. She pitched the entire 7-inning game. She allowed 9 hits, 4 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 1.
Monasia Sowells was tagged with the loss. She also pitched 7 innings. She allowed 7 hits, 6 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Although Dillon garnered more hits than East Clarendon, Dillon also committed more errors, 6, in fact while East Clarendon committed 2 errors.
East Clarendon’s Kinsley Driggers picked up 3 rbi on 1 hit in 4 at-bats while Caitlin Timmons connected for 2 hits and a rbi in 4 trips to the plate. Elly Floyd garnered 1 hit in 4 at-bats.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Emilee Price who picked up 2 rbi, a double, and a single in 4 at-bats while Abby Bristow garnered 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate. Skyler McCoy hit a double and a single in 4 at-bats.
Dillon will host Aynor on Tuesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m.
