The Dillon Herald Election News And Ads Policy Announced

In order to be fair to all candidates, The Dillon Herald has established the following policy in regards to political news and paid advertisements.

POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Dillon Herald accepts political announcements from candidates who are seeking public office. Candidates may run free of charge, one 2 column by 5 inch announcement which includes a one column by two and a half inch photograph in conjunction with a paid advertisement of 2 columns by 5 inches or larger that runs the same week. Additional space for the news article may be purchased at the current advertising rate. We do not guarantee that the candidate’s photograph will run in color nor do we guarantee front page placement or a particular run date. Announcements must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12th. Candidates will only be allowed to run one free announcement with a paid ad.

ADDITIONAL ARTICLES FROM CANDIDATES
The Herald will not accept additional articles from candidates in regards to any campaign issue—including opinions or endorsements, etc. on any issue. Candidates are invited to express additional views through paid advertisements.
One month prior to the election, no photos, articles, etc. which involve candidates—regardless of the subject matter—will be printed. The last issue that these will run is Thursday, May 10th.
Anything printed one month prior to the election must be in the form of paid advertisements.

ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OF CANDIDATES
Any photos of candidates which appear in the newspaper must be at legitimate news events. Appearances by candidates at dinners, fundraisers or such events for which the main focus is another matter (or a candidate simply showing up at an event) will not be considered newsworthy and will not be printed.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
The Herald will not accept letters whose only purpose is to support or endorse or comment on a particular candidate or which discusses any campaign issue. These types of letters must run as paid advertisements. We reserve the right to edit letters/advertisements or to refuse to print letters/advertisements at our discretion. Letters must be signed and contain a complete address and a telephone number for verification.
