Mrs. Vashti Lewis Meekins, 83, passed away, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family
Graveside services were held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will followed the service at the cemetery.
Born in Marion County, June 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Jim Lewis and Fancy Snipes Lewis. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She and her husband were owners of Meekins Farm Productions and Sons. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, me-me, sister, aunt, and friend. She treated everyone as though they were her own children. She worked on the farm, was the best at cooking famous meals especially her pastry & dressing, and fried chicken. Beet and Vashti always had their nieces and nephews on the farm and taught them the responsibility of working hard.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 67 years, Frank “Beet” Meekins, Jr. of the home; sons, Larry Frank Meekins (Stella) and Joe Meekins of Dillon; sister, Mary Saville of Travelers Rest, SC, Lucille King of Nichols, SC, Wilma Howard of West Columbia, SC, Judy Sawyer of Columbia, SC and Lynn Hardin of Dillon, SC; brother, Gene (Bestelle) Lewis of Sumter; grandchildren, Lisa Brewer, Corey Meekins, Justin Meekins, Lindsey Meekins, Chay Meekins, Josh Meekins, and Levi Meekins; 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Fancy Lewis; sister, Catherine Tyler; a brother, Janes Oliver Lewis.
