Two-Hour Parking Being Enforced

By Betsy Finklea
Two-hour parking is being enforced in the City of Dillon, Mayor Todd Davis reported on Monday night at the City of Dillon Council meeting.
Davis said that the two-hour parking is cumulative. He said that one cannot move their vehicle from one space to another and get a new two hours. He said business owners who park in handicapped spaces are subject to the same two-hour parking rules. Davis said when he was asked about this he spoke to the city manager who told him the spaces were for patrons and not business owners.
Davis said there were parking spaces and/or parking lots in the back of many or near by the affected businesses. He said while it may be inconvenient, overall it was good.
Two-hour parking affects Main Street and MacArthur Avenue. City Manager Glen Wagner said the two-hour parking does not include the courthouse, post office, or City-County Complex. He said it starts at Martin Luther King Boulevard and ends at Gigi & Docs. This area is set by ordinance.
Councilman Johnny Eller asked if the ordinance could be amended for the handicapped. Wagner said that the council could amend it, but they would be defeating their purpose. He said there is only one handicapped space per block.
Davis said that overall he thought this was going to work out fine.
