Warriors Get Great Start To Basketball Season With Wins In All Four Divisions

The Dillon Christian School Warriors’ basketball season got off to a good start by claiming victory in all four divisions last evening against Carolina Academy.
The Warriors JV girls defeated Carolina Academy 13-11, and Dillon Christian School’s JV boys won a close one 28-27 over the Bobcats.
The varsity girls from Dillon handed Carolina Academy a 32-23 loss, and the Dillon Christian School varsity boys handed Carolina Academy a 81-63 defeat.
With 2:48 remaining in the third period of play, the Dillon Christian School Junior Varsity boys team held a slim 2-point, 16-14, lead over the visiting Bobcats. #2 for Carolina Academy had an opportunity to knot the score at 16 when he was on the free throw line. However, he missed both shots. #2 for Dillon Christian sank a 3-pointer to give his team a 5-point lead.
After 3 periods of play Dillon Christian was up by 6 points, 24-18.
In the early minutes of play in the fourth period, the Carolina Academy Bobcats clawed their way to only a 4-point deficit, 26-22, that quickly became only a 1-point deficit.
With the score 28-26 in favor of the Warriors with only 1:32 remaining in the game, #1 for Carolina Academy was on the charity line with a chance to give his team the lead while shooting 4 free throw shots. However, he converted only 1.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors held on to claim a 28-27 win.
The opening tip-off for the varsity girls game was controlled by Carolina Academy. However, Lizzie Outlar put the Warriors on the scoreboard first with a 2-point basket. The Bobcats closed the gap to 2-1 on a free throw by #5. Anna Thompson for Dillon sank two 3-pointers and at the end of the first period Dillon held a commanding 13-1 lead. However, Carolina Academy quickly placed 13 points on the scoreboard while holding Dillon Christian School to only 3 points to cut the lead to 16-13. The game became more interesting as #10 for the Carolina Academy Bobcats laid one in for 2 points to cut Dillon’s lead to only 1 point. #10 for Carolina Academy was fouled while shooting and sank the free throw to knot the score at 16. Dillon’s Anna Thompson sank a free throw to give Dillon a 1-point lead. However, #5 for Carolina Academy sank a 3-pointer to give Carolina Academy a 19-17 lead at halftime. In the opening moments of the third period, Dillon’s Anna Thompson hit a 3-pointer to give Dillon a 20-19 lead. The Warriors would never trail in the game again.
With 4:37 remaining in the third period, the Warriors were up 21-19 as Lizzie Outlar hit 1 free throw. Dillon’s Anna Thompson added another 3-pointer to give the Warriors a little breathing room. The Warriors lead increased to 26-19 as #12 connected on 2 free throws.
Both teams saw a lot of action at the charity line.
At the sound of the final buzzer, the Dillon Christian School Warriors girls varsity team had a 32-23 win.
The Carolina Academy Bobcats varsity boys controlled the tip-off only to have Phillip Campbell for Dillon Christian School sink the first basket of the game to give Dillon an early 2-0 lead. However, #3 for Carolina Academy knotted the score at 2.
The game was tied at 4 when Diaz Alexander hit a 3-pointer for Dillon. Soon thereafter Ross Carlyle for Dillon sank a 3-pointer, #3 for Carolina Academy connected for 2 points as did the Warriors.
With 4:29 remaining in the first period, Dillon Christian had a 7-point lead, 13-6. Each team exchanged baskets and free throws as the game became closer with the Bobcats cutting Dillon’s lead to 4 points, 20-16, at the end of the first period.
Four consecutive free throws, 2 by #5 and 2 by #2 for Carolina Academy knotted the score at 20. The Warriors’ center, Walt Bailey sank a free throw to place Dillon back on top with a 1-point lead. Montez Alford for Dillon Christian School hit three 2-pointers in a row to give Dillon a 7-point lead.
The Bobcats and the Warriors exchanged baskets before Dillon sank an extra 3-pointer to go up 10, 40-30.
At halftime, Dillon Christian School led 45-35.
Dillon claimed the win at the end of the night 81-63.
