Media Appreciation Luncheon Held

The Dillon County Council in conjunction with Office of Congressman Tom Rice and with the sponsorship of Anderson Brothers Bank held a Media Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday.
The Dillon Herald newspaper was among those recognized.
The event began with a meal and greetings from Rodney Berry, Dillon County Administrator. An invocation was given by Bishop Michael Goings.

Berry recognized several in attendance.
Jennifer Watson, Chief of Staff for Congressman Tom Rice, gave a brief keynote address on how the media could change lives.
Berry took the opportunity to say that Dillon County was “Alive On 95.” He thanked all of the media present for the job that they do.
Proclamations were then presented by Dillon County Council Chairman Archie Scott to each of the media companies represented. Herald Group CEO Thomas Jordan, General Manager Johnnie Daniels, and Editor Betsy Finklea accepted the proclamation.
The proclamation that The Dillon Herald was presented stated the following:
PROCLAMATION
OF THE DILLON
COUNTY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the local media dedicates itself to serving the residents of Dillon County and keeping them informed of national, state, and local events; and
WHEREAS, the local media strives to report on local community events, celebrations, and activities in Dillon County; and
WHEREAS, the local media’s coverage of the decisions of local governmental entities fosters accountability and transparency to the citizens of Dillon County, and
WHEREAS, the local media is diligent in its efforts to improve the quality of life for Dillon County residents by keeping them informed of local news and activities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert A. Scott, Chairman of the Dillon County Council, do hereby declare Dillon County’s appreciation for The Dillon Herald in the County of Dillon and encourages all citizens to express their gratitude to The Dillon Herald whose top priority is keeping us informed..

After proclamations were presented, several awards were presented to local reporters including Betsy Finklea, editor of The Dillon Herald. in recognizing Finklea, he also mentioned the hard work and dedication of General Manager Johnnie Daniels.
Honorariums were presented to two local writers, who have columns in The Dillon Herald, Bishop Michael Goings and Carley Wiggins. Berry offered closing remarks and the meeting adjourned.
