Communities For Students Of Dillon County Holds Annual Reception

Communities for Students of Dillon County (CFDC) held its annual reception for partners of the College Scholarship Program on Thursday evening, May 4, at Abingdon Manor. Light refreshments were served as guests enjoyed the music of Doug Trammel from Myrtle Beach.
At this time sponsors met with board members and others to learn more about the program which they support.
CFDC established this College Scholarship Program in 2001 and voted to provide scholarships to seniors from Dillon High School, Lake View High School, and Latta High School. Each year two seniors from each of these high schools receive scholarships to Francis Marion University. The University matches these scholarships and this adds additional financial support. CFDC also continues to donate to Francis Marion University and Communities for Students of Dillon County Endowed Scholarship.
The organization is also involved with the First Book Initiative, After-School Tutoring, DSS Foster Care Support, and McLeod Dillon Health Initiative Partnership.
Members of the Board of Directors for the organization are: Johnnie Luehrs-Co-Chair, Shipp Daniel-Co-Chair, Carmen Bethea-Vice-Chair, Angel Bethea-Secretary, Sharon Grissett-Treasurer, Charles Carmichael, Dr. Fred Carter, Marsden H. Cox III, Mary Freitas, Rachel Gainey, Chris Harris, Dr. Linda Hayes, Rob Lesser, Karl McAlister, Pam McCormick, Ina Page, Grady Sampson, Ricky Taylor, and Nancy Brigman- Executive Director.
