Local Churches Honor Law Enforcement

Dr. Quinton Mills was the guest evangelist on Sunday, May 7, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
After the prelude by Miss Linda McKenzie, Music Director Gene Tanner opened the 10:45 a.m. service with prayer and welcomed everyone.
The Mount Calvary Quartet consisting of Gene Tanner, Debbie Hill, Bobbie Lee, and Gene Hill, began the service in song.
After the special song by the Mount Calvary Quartet, Dr. Mills spoke on Psalms 92:12 and 13 for the morning service. He blessed the congregation with song and the Word.
At 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Kemper Baptist Church joined with Mount Calvary Baptist Church for a special meal and recognition of Dillon County’s First Responders. After a delicious meal with many desserts everyone was invited to a special service at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The Mount Calvary Baptist Church quartet blessed the congregation in song.
Kemper Baptist Church’s pastor Haywood Proctor recognized and thanked all of the First Responders who were part of a nearly packed sanctuary.
The service was turned over to Dr. Quinton Mills who also thanked the First Responders for their service to our community. His message was from Galatians 6: 7, 8, and 9.
Mills sang “Lily of the Valley” that remained on the religious charts for nearly two years. Since that time he has enjoyed many other hits including a song that was nominated for the gospel single of the year a year or so ago.
Dr. Mills’ humor and his love of the Lord captivated those in attendance.
Dr. Mills was joined in a duet by Sheriff Major Hulon.
Dr. Mills gave his inspiring testimony and presented the Word to those in attendance.
Dr. Mills was the youngest of 12 who grew up on a farm in North Carolina. During his youth on the farm, there was no running water nor indoor plumbing. Like most youth, he, too, managed to get into lots of trouble.
He joined the Navy and served 4 years and was released in 1968. He is proud to be a Veteran.
After returning from service he faced the aftermath of wartime. He, like many others, began to drink and do drugs to the point that he took his own life. Later, still battling the aftermath, he overturned his car while driving 115 miles per hour and was once again “dead”. His Mother, and many others, I’m sure, continued to pray for him. Before her death he was reborn through Christ, and began his ministry.
