Bessie H. Smoak

Services for Bessie H. Smoak  will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamer Church of God with entombment in Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery Mausoleum directed by Cooper Funeral Home.  Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smoak was peacefully called home at her residence on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Born in Dillon County, SC, February 16, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Lola Berry Mumford.  Mrs. Smoak lived a long meaningful  life.  She was a hard working, family loving woman who will truly be missed.  Most importantly she will always be remembered because of her heart of gold.  She was always there to lend a helping hand, but she believed in hard work.  This quality she instilled in her daughters and grandchildren.  Although she was not well-educated, she was determined for her daughters and grandchildren to have an education.  She loved her family, friends, gospel music, ice cream, anything sweet, and the Lord.  She attended Hamer Church of God.
Survivors include her daughter, Jonathan “Joan” Jackson-Meekins (Leroy); her grandchildren, Anthony Stonewall Ivey (Jessica), Danielle Manessa Hardin (Andrew); Brandon Riley Meekins, and Franklin Leroy Meekins; great-grandchildren, Paisley Bee Price, Huntley Seay Hardin, Hollisyn Chase Hardin, all of Dillon; and her special Yorkie, “Juicy.”
Mrs. Smoak was preceded in death by her husbands, Stonewall Jackson and Walter F. Smoak; daughters, Stonie Bee Jackson Ivey and Manessa Jackson; and her sister, Julia “JuJu” Owens.
