Local Counselors Attend Palmetto State School Counselor Association Annual Conference

The Palmetto State School Counselor Association (PSSCA) Annual Conference was held January 19 – 21, 2017 in Myrtle Beach, SC.  
The theme was “Soaring to the Top!.”  The keynote speaker was Dr. Carolyn Stone.
Dr. Stone is a 40-year veteran educator, who has worked as a teacher, school counselor, and School psychologist in elementary and high schools.  
She also served as a regional guidance coordinator for the Florida Department of Education and Supervisor of Guidance for Duval County Public Schools in the 1990s.  Dr. Stone is currently a Professor of Counselor Education at University of North Florida.  
Her keynote address was “Let Your Advocacy Actions Define Your Role.”
She stated school counselors are critically important to our nation’s future and must advocate for their ability to do their job without barriers and hindrances because our nation’s children are depending on it; and school counselors are key strategist and deliverers in the effort to close information, opportunity and attainment gaps.
