Datron Jones Signs Letter Of Intent

Datron Jones signed his letter of intent to play football at Newberry in Friday, Feb. 10, with family and friends present at the Lake View Media Center, at Lake View High School.
Not only does he excel in football but he also has been on the Lake View academic challenge team since his freshman year.He has contributed to Lake View having won the state academic challenge for the past 3 years!
Jones has also played football for 4 years for Lake View.
Datron’s friends, coaches, and parents have been instrumental in influencing him in the sport of football.
Jones received offers from the Citadel and Johnson C. Smith but decided on Newberry as the environment there is condusive to the Latta location. Jones should fit well in the Newberry environment as he is a competitive player.
Newberry partners with Clemson, and Jones wants to advance himself in the aerospace engineering field.
Datron will not only carry the winning of the state football title with him to Newberry but also other great memories, a good mindset, and the drive for academic and athletic excellence.
Jones, while playing offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Lake View Wild Gators, garnered several awards including All-Zone Team, North-South Selection, All-Blitz Team, HSSR All-State, SCHSL All-Region, and a state championship.
Datron had 64 tackles, 11 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery in his senior year of play at Lake View.
His parents, Robert and Miya Jones, are extremely proud of their son not only while playing football but also his academic prowess. “We are impressed with his focusing on his career in aerospace engineering. After graduation from college, Datron will continue his aerospace career,”  expressed his parents.
Lake View Coach Daryl King stated “Datron is a great young man. He is a perfect example of a student athlete. He has maintained above a 4.5 GPA while also being a major piece in the success of our football program. He has been a two-way starter all four years of his high school career. He was a tremendous player but also a good leader who led by his work on and off he field. He will be missed by the coaches of Lake View, but we know he will be very successful at Newberry.”
