AARP Quarterly Update

The Dillon Area Chapter #5336, of AARP, Inc., met on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the Council on Aging with 25 members and two guests in attendance.  President Mickie Singleton presided and conducted the usual opening rituals.
Program chairperson, Christine Carmichael  introduced  Mr. Roger Sloan, President of Sloan Wealth Management Services, PC speaker.  Mr. Sloan traced trends in the stock market beginning in 1934 and commented on the term of each new president.  Mr. Sloan’s lecture generated many interesting suggestions and comments and he was thanked for his presentation.
The business session followed with reports from officers and committees.  The chapter received a letter of congratulations for 15 years of volunteer service from Doris Gleason, Director of Community Outreach for AARP in S.C.  The chapter’s food drive in observance of AARP’s Day of Service was very successful.  The food items were given to the COA to disperse as needed.
Adjournment was at 3:00 p.m.

The Dillon Area Chapter #5336 of AARP, Inc. met on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the COA with 23 members and one guest in attendance.  President Mickie Singleton extended a warm welcome to all for the annual Christmas social.  After the devotional and pledge, everyone was invited to the refreshment are for Christmas goodies and fellowship.  Adjournment was at 2:55 p.m.

The Dillon Area Chapter #5336 of AARP, Inc. met on Monday, January 9, 2017, in the meeting room of the COA at 2:00 p.m. with 18 members and one guest in attendance.  President Mickie Singleton presided extended a warm welcome to all.  After The Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag and a brief meditation, Mr. Ronnie Carter, speaker for the afternoon was introduced.  Mr. Carter told chapter members about the volunteer work done in the community by the Main Street United Methodist Church Men’s Organization.  This includes raking and cleaning yards, cutting shrubbery, building ramps, and other activities.  Baskets filled with food items were prepared and delivered to 50 families at Christmas.  The chapter members were also informed about a new mental health program in which Mr. Carter is involved.  Questions were graciously answered and Mr. Carter was thanked for the comments.
The meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
Anyone 50 years or above, whether working or retired is invited to join the local chapter which meets the second Monday of each Month excluding July and August.  Membership in the national AARP organization is required to become a member of the local chapter.
