Services for Neil Lanue Herring were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Pyerian Baptist Church. Burial with military honors were held in the church cemetery. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Mr. Herring, 89, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Born in Dillon County, SC, July 4, 1927, he was the son of the late J.W. “Whit” Herring, Sr. and Bonnie McDonald Herring. He was a member of Pyerian Baptist Church where he was the Treasurer for 56 years, and was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II. Mr. Herring retired after 44 years of service as an Assistant Manager at B.C. Moore’s.
Survivors include his sons, Gene (Kelly) Herring of Rock Hill, and Ronnie (Sandy) Herring of Dillon; daughter, Joyce (Percy) Brigman of Latta; grandchildren, Gina Herring Plummer (Jeff) of Rock Hill, William (Carrie Ann) Brigman of Latta, Wesley Herring of Spartanburg, Kyle Herring of Myrtle Beach, Joseph Herring and Robert Herring of Rock Hill, and Caroline Herring of Dillon; great-grandchildren, Holden Plummer of Rock Hill, Noah Brigman of Latta, and Tristan Martin.
Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Myrtle Baxley Herring.
