DHSF Holds Monthly Meeting

Among the agenda items of the December monthly meeting of Dillon Historic School Foundation, Chairman Gerald Berry asked for a report from the DHSF members who met Mr. Steve Harrington of Columbia, SC to show him around J.V. Martin campus.  At the conclusion of his visit, Mr. Harrington offered to come back to Dillon to speak to DHSF members about the renovation of the auditorium, suggestions for other buildings, and to help us with applications for grants.
Mr. Harrington, Grant Professional Certified, has more than 25 years experience.  He will speak at the Dillon Wellness Center on January 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  His presentation is entitled “What a Small Community Can Accomplish Through Collaboration.”  The public is invited.
In early December the J. V. Martin buildings were toured by two different groups who are considering areas of the facility for their businesses.  The location and the large rooms received many favorable comments.  Both stated that some renovation would be necessary to address their specific needs.  Each will make a report to their respective boards and will get back to DHSF if more information is needed or regarding a decision.
January promises to be a busy month for DHSF as several projects are already on the agenda.   The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Chamber of Commerce.   Those who are interested in helping to renovate the authentic and historic Dillon High School auditorium are invited to become a member.  Until the last few years, live stage performances of every kind have entertained the people of our community since 1936.
Our motto “Reclaim the Past. Proclaim the Future” accurately defines the purpose of the Dillon Historic School Foundation.
