Thomas Cade Sherwood, 94, passed away November 8, 2016. He was born July 25, 1922 in Sâo Paulo, Brazil to Wattie Bethea and Eunice Allen Sherwood while they were Baptist missionaries in Campo Grande, Brazil.
Tom came to the US to attend North Greenville Junior College in Tigerville, SC, he then attended Furman University where he received a BA degree. Afterwards he received BD and Th M degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He worked at SBTS as Registrar and Director of Academic Records until his retirement. He retained his Portuguese language and was a great help to Brazilian students who attended the Seminary.
He was a longtime member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church where he was a deacon, church clerk, Sunday School teacher, usher and served on several committees. He was an active member of the Louisville Stamp Society. He enjoyed volunteering at United Crescent Hill Ministries delivering Meals on Wheels. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Neill, sisters Elza Seabock and Priscilla Powers.
He is survived by his wife and caregiver of 61 years, Johnnie; son Joel Thomas Sherwood (Mary Anne) of Crestwood, KY, and daughter Melissa Ann Hofmann (Richard) of Granada Hills, CA. He has three grandchildren, Bradley and Alexander Sherwood, and Emily Hofmann, siblings; sisters Eva Pilkinton, and Rachel Roberts (James), brothers, William, George E. (Dolores), W. David (Eyvonne), and James L. (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Tom’s life were held at 11 a.m. Saturday the 12th in the sanctuary of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Ave. with burial at Cave Hill. Visitation 2-7 p.m. Friday the 11th at Arch L. Heady-Cralle, 2428 Frankfort Ave.
