By Betsy Finklea
A committee has been appointed to develop a time capsule to replace the one removed from the Dillon County Courthouse in 2010.
The purpose of the committee is “to preserve the first 100 years of the existence of Dillon County in a capsule for the future generations. The capsule is to be placed by the youth and leadership of the county in the courthouse behind the Masonic cornerstone.”
The committee will be called the Dillon County Historical Preservation Committee. The following members were appointed by the Dillon County Council: Chairman-Gwen Hyatt, Vice-Chairman-James Lockemy, A. LaFon LeGette, Jr., from Latta, Pat Laird from Lake View, Yolanda McCormick from Dillon, and Harold Moody from Dillon County Council. The cornerstone will be placed for 50 years. Motion to form the committee and place the cornerstone for 50 years was made by Councilman Robbie Coward and seconded by Councilman Archie Scott. All in attendance approved.
