DHSF Works On Several Important Items

As soon as Chairman Gerald Berry called the October meeting to order, Dillon Historic School Foundation members began to work on several important items on the agenda.  Among them was the need for a special meeting to appoint committees to finalize the plans for the Barbecue fundraiser.  Encouraged by the large attendance of the Historic Marker Ceremony, members made the decision to hold an Open House in conjunction with the fundraiser.  This will give the public another opportunity to tour the interior of the auditorium.
Members were updated by Chairman Berry on the current auditorium roof situation.  He also gave the details of his interesting tour of the JVM campus with landscape designer Tommy Taylor of Florence.  Another important accomplishment was the preparation and mailing of a scrapbook containing the story of DHSF from its beginning in 2010 to the present.   It was sent to a recommended VIP in Washington, DC whose help and advice for locating and securing grants and donations will be invaluable to the renovation of the auditorium.
Members were asked to help with assembling the choir to record the Alma Mater as arranged by Jimmy Woodle.  It will be directed by Robin Thompson of the Main Street United Methodist Church, and the voices will be those of graduates from Dillon High School.  Chairman will announce practice times and the recording date.  This will no doubt be beautiful, nostalgic and meaningful to everyone who ever attended Dillon High School.  Anyone interested in participating may contact Gerald Berry at 843-632-2774.
When riding by the J.V. Martin school, take a look at the new “DHSF” sign that has been placed in front.  It is just the first step of the attractive entrance that has been envisioned for our historic auditorium.
As with most everything else in the community, Hurricane Matthew rearranged a few of the plans of DHSF.  The next meeting on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. will likely be to reschedule practically everything.
As always, it will be held in the conference room of the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce.  Join us.
