Lake View defeated Hemingway, 22-14, on Lake View’s Senior Night on Friday night.

Lake View Holds On To Defeat Hemingway
The Lake View Wild Gators held on to defeat the Hemingway Tigers 22-14 in a varsity football game played in Lake View on Friday, October 28.
The Wild Gators took the opening kickoff from the Tigers of Hemingway. Randall Washington, #21, carried on the first play of the game and picked up 7 yards.  On the next play, Washington picked up a first down. It appeared as though Lake View was off and running. However, on the next play after Washington picked up 2 yards a holding penalty pushed the Wild Gators back. The Gators’ quarterback, Duane Nichols, tossed one to Tyshawn McDaniel who missed the ball. Nichols tossed another pass that was caught for 3 yards, and a personal foul against Hemingway gave Lake View a first down. Washington picked up 6 yards on the next play.  However, on the next play he fumbled and Hemingway recovered.
Hemingway was forced to punt after being unable to move the ball.
De’Ante Bridgett quickly picked up a first down. Nichols tossed a completed pass to Tyshawn McDaniel.  On the next play Nichols connected with McDaniel for a touchdown with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter. De’Ante Bridgett converted the 2-point conversion, and Lake View led 8-0 over Hemingway.
Lake View’s Brandon Acevedo kicked off to Hemingway’s #1.  Once again, the Lake View defense held, and Hemingway’s #4 was again forced to punt.
Lake View’s quarterback, Duane Nichols, sustained an ankle injury and had to leave the game.
The Hemingway defense held, and Lake View’s #24, Nick Collins was forced to punt.
Hemingway’s quarterback, #4, connected with #1 for a long touchdown.   The 2-point conversion failed, and Lake View held a slim 2-point lead.
Lake View began the next series of plays with poor field position and after penalties found themselves having to punt from the end zone.
Hemingway ended up with good field position on Lake View’s 39-yard line. On the first down #21 for Hemingway was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass with 8:28 remaining in the second quarter. Hemingway’s #8 carried in the 2-point conversion, and Hemingway led 14-8.
Lake View’s De’Ante Bridgett took the kickoff in stride and returned it to Lake View’s own 45-yard line. After picking up a first down, De’Ante Bridgett fumbled, and Hemingway recovered the ball.
Hemingway was forced to punt as the Lake View defense held.
With 3:40 remaining in the second quarter, Tyshawn McDaniel scored. De’Ante Bridgett carried the 2-point conversion into the end zone, and Lake View regained the lead 16-14.
Hemingway was again forced to punt. However, Lake View quickly turned the ball over on a fumble by De’Ante Bridgett with 1:29 remaining in the first half.
Lake View’s Tyshawn McDaniel intercepted a pass with 18.4 seconds remaining in the first half.
At halftime Lake View led 16-14.
Lake View recognized all seniors in all sports at halftime.
Hemingway was moving the ball in the third quarter but were were forced to punt when unable to pick up another first down after a penalty pushed them back.
Lake View was unable to muster any offense and turned the ball over to Hemingway who also was unable to move the ball.  On fourth down the ball was centered over Hemingway’s punter’s head, and Lake View took over.
Nearing the end of the third quarter both teams were called for personal fouls.
After 3 quarters Lake View’s lead was 2 points.
With 10:13 remaining in the game Tyshawn McDaniel scored for the final touchdown of the game. The 2-point conversion failed.
Lake View managed to hold Hemingway.
The final was Lake View 22 and Hemingway 14.
Lake View is 8-0 on the season.
The Lake View Wild Gators will host East Clarendon on Friday, November 4.
