The Cheraw Braves barely defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 7-0 in varsity football action on Friday, August 12, in the Dennis Miller Jamboree of Champions played in Bennettsville on a 7-yard run by Christian McRae on the only score of the game.
On Lake View’s first series of downs, the offense was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt.  #24, Nick Collins, for Lake View’s first punt of the game ended up inside the 5-yard line for Cheraw.
Cheraw’s offense could not get muster any good yardage and was also forced to punt.
Lake View’s #21, Randall Washington,  carried on first down followed by #10, Duane Nichols,  Lake View’s senior quarterback who picked up good yardage. The momentum was stopped when Cheraw’s #13 intercepted with 1:24 remaining in the first quarter.
Cheraw’s quarterback, #12, completed a pass to #8 good for an 8-yard pickup. #20 for Cheraw was on the receiving end of another pass good for a first down. #20 was again the target for the Cheraw quarterback.
After the first quarter the game was tied at zero.
Cheraw was unable to gain any momentum on the first series of plays in the second quarter and was forced to punt.
Lake View could not muster any offense and was also forced to punt.
Cheraw finally was able to move the ball and managed to score the only points of the game by Christian McRae. #18 for Cheraw connected for the extra to make the score 7-0.
With 2:41 remaining in the game Lake View came out passing with a 1-yard completion, an incomplete pass, a complete pass to #6, Albert Wheeler, that got the Wild Gators over the 50-yard line.
With 1:05 remaining, the Lake View quarterback, #10, Duane Nichols, ran out of bounds to stop the clock. Lake View’s quarterback tossed a completed pass to #1, Darius Ford,  inside the Cheraw twenty with 55 seconds remaining.
Lake View’s quarteback threw 2 incomplete passes before being pulled down from behind on third down. On fourth down, the ball was overthrown to stop the Lake View threat.
Cheraw took over with 20.5 seconds remaining in the game.
Lake View will travel to Latta on Thursday, August 18, for the opening game of the regular season.
