Club Participates In Sporting Clay Shoot

The Dillon County 4-H shooting sports program participated in a competition at the National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) “Heat Is On” sporting clay shoot held at Backwoods Quail Club in Hemingway on July 9th and 10th.
The NWTF presented Midway USA Foundation endowment funds to competing youth teams. Dillon County 4-H had 5 shooters representing their team. The team score consisted of the 3 highest individual scores from the team members. Shooting for Dillon County were, Walker Brumble, Samuel Coleman, Zack Arrington, Jacob Edwards, and Brenna Miller.
The team from Backwoods was the winner of the youth event breaking 489 targets out of 600 and winning $7,500 for their efforts.  
Live Oaks team from Swansea near Columbia came in 2nd with a score of 470 and won $6,500. “The Kings Academy” team from Florence came in 3rd with a score of 445 and won $5,500.
Thomas Sumter Academy was 4th and Richland Creek was 5th. Dillon County 4-H came in 6th place with a score of 407 and was awarded $2,500 for their efforts.
In addition to the team score and awards, Walker Brumble came in 2nd in the Hunter Class, breaking 149 targets out of 200. He won a new shotgun for this performance. Samuel Coleman came in third place in the same division with a score of 145.
The shoot at Backwoods was the final shoot of the 2016 season.
The Dillon County 4-H Shooting club will begin their 2016/2017 season beginning September 1, 2016.

Youth may choose the level they want to participate in from basic instruction and safety to the more advanced registered competition.
