PHOTO GALLERY: Dillon 12U Defeats Latta

The Dillon 12 u softball team handed Latta their first loss in the state tournament played in Marion on Monday, July 18.
Latta picked up the first hit of the game in the top of the second inning when #15 punched one over second for a single with one out in the inning but was unable to score.
In the bottom of the second inning Dillon’s #5, Santana Anderson,  arrived at first on an error.  #7 D, Lexie Rogers,  walked.  #2 D, Jayla Goodwin,  stole third. #77 D, Ashton Goodwin,  singled to load the bases. The first run of the game was scored when #9 D, Shakaniah Murphy,  was hit by a pitch. #14 D, Lindsey Floyd, struck out watching. #12 D, Lexie Martin,  walked and Dillon picked up another run.  After 2 innings Dillon led 2-0.
#14 for Latta picked up a walk to begin the top of the third inning. #00 for Latta hit a grounder to Dillon’s shortstop, #6, Abby Bristow, who stopped the runner from first at second on a fielder’s choice. #1 for Latta hit a hot grounder between shortstop and third to place runners on the corners. #4  for Latta picked up a walk to load the bases. #5 for Latta dribbled one to third that was bobbled and Latta got on the scoreboard with their first run of the evening.  Dillon led 2-1. #21 for Latta dribbled one to the pitcher who tossed it to home to stop another run. #22 for Latta also hit one to the pitcher who tossed the runner out at home to close out the top of the second inning with Dillon holding a 2-1 lead.
Dillon picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the third to give Dillon a 5 to 1 lead going into the fourth inning.
#11 for Latta got on base when hit by a pitch to give Latta a runner to start the inning. The Dillon pitcher, Lexie Rogers,  came over to first base to apologize and make certain the player was okay. #22 for Latta was inserted as a courtesy runner for #11.  #15 for Latta picked up a walk. Latta had runners on first and second. #12 for Latta picked up a walk to load the bases for Latta.  A throw was made to third by the catcher and a run scored for Latta.  Dillon’s lead was cut 5 to 2. After 3 1/2 innings Dillon led 5 to 2.
After 5 innings Dillon’s led 10-2.
Dillon substituted a new pitcher to begin the top of the sixth inning.  Latta closed the gap to 10-8 before #7 for Dillon, Lexie Rogers,  re-entered the game with 2 outs and runners on second and third.  She struck out the next batter to end the threat.  Dillon won 10-8. Dillon played Moncks Corner on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
