The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated Edisto 11-0 in varsity softball action on Friday, April 29, in Dillon.
Tori Grimsley pitched 3 and 1/3 innings and allowed no runs, struck out 5, and walked 1.
Seegars took the loss for Edisto.
The Lady Wildcats took an early lead in the 4-inning game and never trailed while scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Dillon added 2 runs in the bottom of the second and 7 runs in the bottom of the third.
A throwing error by the third baseman for Edisto allowed Dillon’s lead-off hitter, Auh’kieria  Smiling, to get on base and advance to second. A’Doshia Graves bunted for Dillon and arrived at first as the first baseman was pulled off the bag on the throw. Dillon now had runners on the corners. As Edisto’s catcher attempted to pick off Graves as she stole second, Smiling scored Dillon’s first run.
Edisto’s #10, Haden picked up a walk to lead off.  However, she was picked off at first by Dillon’s catcher, Ashley Phillips.#11, Rogers, went down swinging before #6, Zorn, hit 1 between center and right for a double. #$4, Seegars, Edisto’s pitcher struck out swinging at a high pitch.
After 1 and 1/2 innings Dillon was ahead by only 1 run.
Ashley Phillips led off with a single between first and second for the Lady Wildcats.  A courtesy runner, #2, replaced Dillon’s catcher. #2 quickly stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. Skylar McCoy swung at a high one as she struck out.
Taylor Blackmon dropped 1 behind second for a single and a rbi. Auh’Kieria Smiling hit a line drive by the shortstop for a triple and rbi. A’Doshia Graves picked up a walk, and Dillon had runners on the corners.
#10, the centerfielder for Edisto, made a catch on a fly and collided with her own player but managed to hold onto the ball for out 3 to retire Dillon in the bottom of the second inning.
Edisto’s #3, Cade struck out swinging to lead off the top of the third inning. #5, Hewitt, hit 1 to the short stop for out 2. #9, Phillips lined out to first base to end an easy top of the third for Tori Grimsley.
Brittany Miller hit a grounder to the shortstop who committed an error. #16 was sent into the game for Miller as a courtesy runner. #16 for Dillon stole second. Tori Grimsley connected for a triple and a rbi. Johnna Rogers hit 1 to center for a double and a rbi.
#15, Bingham replaced the pitcher for Edisto.
Ashley Phillips hit a grounder to the shortstop who fielded the ball.  However, she dropped it as she removed it from her glove and Phillips arrived safely at first.
Sklyar McCoy hit a hopper to Edisto’s shortstop who was hit in the face as the ball took a bad hop.
The bases were loaded as Taylor Blackmon popped up 1 to the new shortstop for out 1. Auh’Kieria Smiling hit a grounder to the second baseman who bobbled the ball and a run scored. A’Doshia Graves also hit a grounder to the new shortstop who committed an error and another run scored. Marissa Tyndall picked up a walk for Dillon, and the bases were loaded again as Dillon led 8-0. After an infield conference at the pitcher’s mound, Brittany Miller fouled 1 behind home plate for out 2. Tori Grimsley hit a grounder to second and was safe at first and also picked up a rbi. Johnna Rogers hit a grounder to third, and the runner was out at third on a fielder’s choice.
After 3 innings Dillon was in charge 10-0.
Edisto’s # 12 bunted foul on the third strike for out 1.
Marissa Tyndall took over the pitching duties for Dillon. Edisto’s #13 struck out swinging. Edisto’s #10, Haden, the centerfielder dribbled 1 to the Tyndall for out 3.
Ashley Phillips hit 1 to center for a triple to start the final at-bat for Dillon. Emilee Price popped up 1 behind first that was caught by the second baseman.
However, the run scored. Tiffany Dwyer was called out on strikes for out 2. Auh’kieria Smiling lined 1 to left that a great catch stopped the hit.
Edisto’s #11 was called out on strikes to begin the top of the fifth. #6 grounded to the pitcher for out 2. #4, Seegars,  popped up an easy 1 in front of home plate that was caught by Phillips to end the game.
