Youth Participate In Green Tomato Contest

Tomato contest

Youth from Dillon County and the Pee Dee Region had the opportunity to showcase their 4-H projects at the Eastern Carolina Agricultural Fair. The Fair is a way for the public to see 4-H in action.  Youth from Dillon County participated in the 4-H Green Tomato Contest.
Entries in the 4-H Green Tomato Contest received ribbons and monies for their prize winning tomatoes.  There were four categories for the youth to enter:  biggest, prettiest, ugliest, and best plate of three.  Youth received plants in late July and grew their tomatoes to enter in the fair.  The tomato plants were grown and donated by a local garden center.
The following youth entered tomatoes for judging:  Christian Britt, Andrew Castrejon, Janare Fletcher, Jamarion Fling, Kayla Fling, Kinsley Henderson, Nija McRae, Yakeem Moore, Cadarius Roberson, Curtis Roberson and Jacob Scott.
The 4-H Green Tomato Contest, in addition to other activities will be presented by 4-H in 2016.  If you would like more information on this project or on other 4-H activities, contact the Dillon County Clemson Extension Office at (843) 774-8218.
