Big Third Inning Boosts Gators Over Eagles, 32-12

The Lake View Wild Gators earned a 32-12 win over Scott’s Branch on the road on Friday night in varsity football action.

Scott’s Branch took advantage of one of four Wild Gator fumbles to score first with Marquise Thomas getting a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter. Thomas’s run capped a 12-play, 30-yard drive, but the conversion failed, leaving the Eagles up 6-0.

Lake View tied things up in the second quarter with De’Ante Bridgett scoring on a 36-yard run. A 15-yard penalty gave Lake View a first down, and the Gators pushed for 66 yards in three plays with Bridgett’s run capping the drive. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the game tied 6-6 at the half.

But Lake View broke open the game in the third as Bridgett returned the opening kickoff for an 83-yard touchdown. Randall Washington scored the two-point conversion to put Lake View up 14-6. Duane Nichols added a touchdown on an 11-yard quarterback keeper, but the conversion was no good, putting the Gators ahead 20-6. Tyshawn McDaniel ended the scoring for the quarter with a 37-yard interception return. The kick failed, leaving the Wild Gators ahead 26-6.

Bridgett struck again in the fourth on a 39-yard run but the kick failed. Scott’s Branch got the final touchdown of the night on a 4-yard run from Marqus House after taking advantage of another Wild Gator fumble. The conversion attempt failed for the final score of 32-12.

Lake View picked up 223 yards on 36 rushing attempts, and held Scott’s Branch to 54 yards on 38 attempts. The Gators attempted only three passes, while the Eagles completed two of 10 attempts for 36 yards and one interception. Lake View made four fumbles for two losses, and the Eagles fumbled the ball twice.

Lake View starts the season 1-0 and will be at home this Friday night to host the Dillon Wildcats in non-conference football action at 7:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
