Bethel A.M.E. Hosts First Responders Breakfast

By Betsy Finklea
A First Responders Appreciation Breakfast was held on Saturday, June 20, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Dillon.
Rev. Leo Chapman, Jr., pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, welcomed those in attendance.  Chapman said they were happy to have the opportunity to show their heartfelt appreciation to the first responders, who protect the citizens of Dillon County.  He said the breakfast was a way of giving back and showing their appreciation to the first responders.  This was followed by prayer.  Nicole A. Chapman gave a scripture reading. Rev. Chapman played the piano and sang a selection.  Haywood Proctor, chaplain of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and pastor of Kemper Baptist Church, gave the blessing of the food.
An array of breakfast foods was served including eggs, bacon, grits, sausage, pancakes, croissants, fresh fruit cups, and various beverages.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, Sheriff Major Hulon, the guest speaker, offered remarks well-suited to the occasion. Chief Deputy Larry Abraham also offered brief remarks.
Rev. Chapman gave the benediction.
