A nearly 32,000 sq.ft. KJ’s Market store will be replacing the current Carl’s IGA, according to John Symons, who is in charge of the company-owned stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
The store will be constructed behind the present Carl’s IGA store which will be torn down at the completion of KJ’s. The store will have the same owners and the same management team.
The projected completion date is seven months.
Land for the new store has been being cleared. It took longer than expected due to the fact that there was asbestos in some of the buildings being torn down. The property will be raised, and a retention pond will be added to ensure proper drainage.
The new KJ’s will be modern. It will feature an expanded deli with an eat-in area. Organic produce will be offered, and there will be a greater variety of regular produce. Every department will be enlarged including the health and beauty departments as well as non-food items.
The store will feature wider aisles which will give a more spacious shopping experience.
There are no anticipated personnel changes; however, an additional 30 positions is expected to be added to the present staff.
“We really appreciate the loyalty and support from the community,” said Symons.
The store will be open from 6 a.m.-11 p.m., 7 days a week.
