Lady Dragons Defeat Lady Warriors 10-1

The Marlboro Academy Lady Dragons traveled to Dillon on Wednesday and came away with a 10-1 region win over the Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and held this lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Warriors evened the score at 1-1. The first four innings had been a pitching and fielding game. A big five-run fifth inning and a four-run sixth put the Dragons out front 10-1. The Warriors failed to rally and ended region play with the 10-1 loss.

On the mound for the Dragons, Lindsay Hunter posted 12 strikeouts with four walked batters and allowed three hits and one run for the win.

On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted two strikeouts with four walked batters and allowed 13 hits with 10 runs scored in the loss.
At bat for the Warriors, Sara Bass was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI; Madison King was 1-for-3, also getting to base on a walk; Ansley Hamer was 1-for-3; and Jamie Carpenter got to base on two walks, adding two stolen bases.

Players that stood out for the Warriors were Ansley Hamer and Madison King in the outfield and Jamie Carpenter, Sara Bass, and Samantha Carpenter in the infield.

At bat for the Dragons, Savanah Barber was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases; Jenna Ridge was 2-for-3 with three RBI; Abigale Ridge was 2-for-3 with a stolen base; McKenzie Powell was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base; Haven Birchfield was 2-for-4 with a stolen base; Betsy Covington was 1-for-3 with one RBI; and Lindsay Hunter was 1-for-4.

Marlboro Academy, Florence Christian School, and Pee Dee Academy finished as the top teams in the region and will begin post season play later in the week.
