Rev. Lafon Hardy

Rev. Lafon Hardy, 77, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015, at his residence after a long term illness.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel , 209 Black Branch Road, Dillon, SC.  Burial with military honors will be held at Pyerian Baptist Church Cemetery.  
 Visitation will be Friday prior to service at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Born in Marion County, September 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Thomas Hardy and Eva Dillon Hardy.  After accepting God’s call he served as lay minister of the Dillon Church of God,  he was a former employee of Dixiana Mills from February 1960 – September 1978, and he was a U.S. Army Veteran.  Before accepting his role as Pastor, Rev. Hardy faithfully served as young married couples teacher, elderly men’s Bible class teacher, Sunny Acres Rest Home Minister, Young Men’s Bible Class teacher, and he conducted Cottage Prayer meetings, he also served 2 terms on church council, he served on the Christian Education Board, and helped with the bus ministry and he was a visitation outreach minister.  He received special state recognition and was awarded Sunday School Superintendent of the year at the Dillon Church of God.  Rev. Hardy pastored Ashley Heights Church of God, Blackville Church of God, Cherry Hill Church of God, and Lesslie Church of God.  He served in the pastoral role for 29 years in the state of South Carolina.   
Survivors include wife of 57 years, Shirley Hulon Hardy of Latta; daughters, Tammy (Joseph) Craven of Moncks Corner, SC and Susan (Herb) Collins of Denmark, SC; grandchildren, Andrew (Priscilla) Bland, Daniel (Ashley) Bland all of Moncks Corner, Austin Collins, and Sara Collins both of Denmark, SC; great-grandchild, Madilyn Bland of Moncks Corner; step-grandchildren of Moncks Corner, Kyle Johnson, and Layla Johnson; and his sister, Virginia Owens of NC;
Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Hardy; and a sister, Eva Mae Watson.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care of SC, Director Dr. Timothy Fitzgibbon, Dorrie Williams, Elizabeth King, and Crystal Clark for the excellent care given to their loved one during his illness.
