The First Annual Red Shoe Walk was held on October 25, 2014 in Charleston.
Tony and LaMecisa Bethea participated in the event.
In 2012, their son, Machale Bethea, was a patient at MUSC and he received the LVAD (Left Ventricular Assistance Device).
In 2013, he received a heart transplant.
During this time the family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House. They are thankful and appreciate all the support that the Dillon community provides to the Ronald McDonald House.
Each night Ronald McDonald House has 27 families of critically ill children, who have traveled to Charleston for treatment, calling their House a “home away from home.”
The home offers these families comfortable beds, hot meals and a caring staff, all just steps from the hospital. It is through the community support, that they are able to continue to help these families during their darkest times.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities empowers families by providing stability and vital resources so they can get and keep their child happy and healthy. By keeping families together, RMHC helps children heal faster and cope better. This year, they are expanding the Ronald McDonald House to help more families in need.
They will be adding five bedrooms for a total of 32 rooms. On average, they have to turn away eight families every night. The money raised through the walk will help with the costs of adding the bedrooms.
