Pianist And Violinist To Present Concert

On Sunday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m. the Latta Schools Educational Foundation is pleased to present Pianist Winifred Bryant Goodwin and Violinist Catherine Culp Hazan in concert at the Ellis Performing Arts Center.  There will be no charge for this event.
Winifred, better known as “Winkie” to Latta citizens, grew up in Latta.  She studied music and piano with Miss Elizabeth Dew.
She is in demand as a chamber musician, orchestral player, and collaborative pianist.  She has been principle keyboardist with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra.  In addition to standard repertory, she specializes in new music and has premiered many works including several by composer/husband, Gordon (Dick) Goodwin.
Mrs. Goodwin holds two degrees in piano performance from the University of South Carolina where she serves as staff pianist in the School of Music.
Catherine holds a bachelor’s degree from Converse College and a master’s from The Catholic University of America under Robert Gerle, as well as a performance certificate from the University of South Carolina with William Terwilliger.  She received further instruction from David Kim (Concertmaster Philadelphia Orchestra) and Joey Corpus (New York City) as well as Paul Kantor (Cleveland Institute of Music) at Aspen Music Festival.  Ms.  Hazan played under such conductors as Kurt Masur, Mendi Rodin, and David Zinman.  She was a fulltime member of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra for six years.  Her teaching background is extensive.  Catherine plays a Georges Chanot violin of 1856.
Dr. John Kirby, Latta Schools Superintendent commented, “We are so very fortunate to have two high caliber professionals perform for our community.  Everyone in Dillon, Marion, and Marlboro County interested in chamber music and classical representation should plan to attend this free concert.”
