Leonard Named MEAC Rookie of the Week

Former Lake View Wild Gator Darius Leonard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance in South Carolina State’s 17-7 win over Furman on Saturday, September 20.

Leonard made eight tackles, including six solo tackles, with one sack and two tackles for loss in the win. He also forced and recovered a fumble for SC State and made three quarterback hurries and one sack for nine yards.

The 6-foot-3, 200-lb. linebacker is a redshirt freshman at SC State. So far this season, he has 19 solo tackles and seven assists for a total of 26 tackles. He has seven tackles for loss for 33 yards, and has made three quarterback sacks for 25 yards, including two against Hampton on Saturday, September 27.

The SC State Bulldogs are 3-2 overall this season and 1-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs will face the North Carolina A&T State Aggies this Saturday, October 4, in Atlanta, Georgia.
