East Elementary third graders share thoughts on first responders:
A fireman has an important job because they save lives. Firemen put out fires. They work hard to save us. They sometimes lose their lives. Firemen are heroes.

A fireman is a person that helps the community by putting out fires. A fireman is brave and gets cats from trees, and keeps you safe.

Police, fireman, solider, and more they are important. They help people in a town. A police officer catches bad people because they won’t hurt you. Fireman helps you by putting our fires because you won’t get burned. Soldiers help you by fighting for our life and justice. That’s why they are important.

Soldiers really help us when we need them. Soldiers really, really helped us in the past. Soldiers long ago died because of all those wars they had fought in the past. The World Wars killed millions of lives. Soldiers are still helping us in the present. They soon might be helping us in the future. That’s why we have Veteran’s Day, to remember all those people who died just to save our country. Soldiers are my heroes.

When I grow up I want to be a fireman and put out the fire and drive a fire truck and save people. When there house is on fire it is important to save people when house is on fire if we don’t save them they can burn.

2. And they’re important because if someone breaks into a bank and someone is hiding they could take all the money or kill the person who is hiding.

That’s why fireman is important to me when somebody house is on fire they spray water and they help people and kids get out of the house and they take them to the hospital to get check by the doctor and the nurses. Policemen are important to me because they help me when someone breaks into our house. If someone tried to steel something in our house when we were asleep I would wake up and call the police. Somebody once broke into our house and tried to kill my puppy. I called the police again and they were hear before he could shoot and then I decided to keep my puppy in the house for now. A person broke into our house again. I called the police again and he got arrested again and then we put locks on our doors and windows so that no one could break into our house again.

On September the 11th, 2001, there was a terrorist attack that resulted in two planes hitting the Twin Towers. My mom was in the Break-Room at Dillon Family Medicine watching the news. She said she was scared. The whole work was scared. Actually, the whole country was scared.

September 11th was a horrific day for the whole country. Even though my family wasn’t personally involved with any of the people who passed away that day, it was still a very upsetting experience. My dad told me he was working at Vernay Manufacturing when the terrible event took place. My dad thinks that it is ridiculous and sad that we have to worry about those types of things happening. He said that the rest of the day, he couldn’t help but wonder if the terrorists were going to strike again somewhere around us.

On September 11th, 2001, horror struck the hearts of America. My grandma, who was currently six hours into her flight, was suddenly and unexpectedly put on a halt. With pained expressions, people explained the tragic event. The first tower was hit, not only a little later, the second was hit. We then knew this was no accident. My grandma not only announced she’d never go in a plane again, but she’d never be able to come to America; especially not after what happened that heart wrenching day.

September 11 was a very scary day for my family! I was only nine months when all of this happened, and my mama was pregnant with my brother, Elijah. My mom was in Lake View, South Carolina when this attack occurred.
She was terrified for her life and mine. An attack in the United States for what???
September 11 so many lives were lost and so many of them are scared and all for nothing.
My family was very scared about what happened, and her fear was the attack would happen again.

My aunt was really heart struck by the 9/11 bombing. She was in the hospital on the air force base when it happened. Her reaction was a sick feeling, not only because of the Twin Towers going down, but also because she wasn’t near my cousin, who was three months old. Her biggest fear was not being able to get to her baby, because the base was on lockdown.

When I was very young, a baby, 9/11 was happening. I had some family that lived close to the towers. They had watched it. I watched it when I was older, and I wondered what my cousins had gone through. My mom told me that they had watched it, but they weren’t in it. I was scared for them ever after, I wondered what happened to them, how they felt. They were there, looking in tragedy as it fell, my biggest fear was that I hoped another attack had not taken place so my cousins would be ok. So they eventually got over the terror, and they are fine now.

What September 11th means to me and my family is a lot. Since the United States got through this tragedy, it will be one to always remember. When this took place, I was two months old and also my mom was watching tv when the alert came on tv. This was a horrible tragedy and, I feel sorry for the families.

September 11th was a rough point in our history. I was only one at the time, so I don’t really have a clear memory on what happened, but my grandma does. She was working at Anvil, and she was getting off work when she got a frantic call from her sister saying, “Turn on the news.” So she turned the t.v. on and saw bombs and what not. My grandma said she was worried about the terrorists coming at us and blowing up the rest of the world.

What does September 11, 2001 mean to my father, Gary E. Cook? On September 11, 2001, my father was at Saint Eugene Hospital in Dillon, South Carolina with his mother, Wanda Hayes Cook. His thoughts about what happened on that day were that he was utterly shocked and didn’t understand what was happening. His biggest fear after it happened was that a war would outbreak between the United States and Al Qaeda. He was also upset because of the 346 brother and sister firefighters and police officers that died fighting.

What does September 11th mean to me? It is a scary thought that I could of died a week before I turned one. The lives that were taken is sad, but I still am alive. If I was old enough to understand I’d be scared that they could of attacked here and killed my loved ones. The fact that they took down those buildings that they were our property.

On September 11, 2001 at around 8:00 am, I was lying in my mom’s arms while she was watching the tragic news and rocking me to sleep in her rocking chair. I don’t think only Americans woke up on that normal, beautiful, early fall morning thinking, “this day will go down as one of the darkest and scariest days in American history.” Not only did it affect the United States, but also countries all around the world. It really did change the world forever and even today. Almost 13 years from that day, we still remember, and we will always remember. Every time I look back at what happened that day, I just know that if we all stand together as a nation, then we will overcome even the darkest days.

My family thinks that 9/11 was a time when we thought someone was going to bomb everyone. When 9/11 occurred, my mom was at work, and I was at daycare. My parents were scared that something was going to happen in our area. Our biggest fear was that other terrorist attacks might occur. I might have only been ten months old, but I can still remember everyone was so terrified and they were so sad about what happened to all of those people. It was all so tragic.
