Dillon’s Andrianna McCollum took first place in the 400 Meter Dash at the 2014 Track and Field State Championship Meet on Saturday, May 17, at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC.

McCollum, a ninth-grader, finished with a time of 59:01, just ahead of Alex Burgess of Pendleton who finished with a time of 59.29. McCollum also competed in the Girls 100 Meter Dash, where she finished with a 13.08.

The win marks the fourth year that a Wildcat athlete has won a Track and Field Championship. Dillon earned a region championship and lower state title in 2011, and earned a lower state and state title in 2012. In 2013, Dillon’s 4×100 Girls Relay Team brought home the state title for the Wildcats.

McCollum is coached by the staff of Jason Gunter, Randy Gray, and Tony Washington.

“This year has been a long and hard but enjoyable season,” the staff said. “We are so proud of our kids. They do an awesome job each and every year.”

“It has been another exciting season. When all odds were against us this season, we brought home a state title.”

Washington also credited his coaching staff. “We can’t say enough about these men.”
