Ruby Blue Page

God out of His amazing grace, wonderful love and infinite wisdom called His humble servant, Ruby Blue Page to her Heavenly home from her labors on February 18, 2014 at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Dillon, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Adolphus (A.D.) and Artie Carmichael Blue. She was born in Dillon County, South Carolina on September 30, 1925, and was educated in the public schools of Dillon County and a Nursing School in Virginia. She surrendered her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and was a committed woman of God until her journey to the glory of Heaven. She was a very active member of Old Bethel Presbyterian Church (USA), Hamer, South Carolina, where she served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer.
Ruby met and married McKeiver Page and this union was blessed with two children. She was a successful farmer until 1974. She loved to cook, read, do word puzzles, but most of all she loved the Lord, her family, friends and people, especially children.  She was so generous with her family, friends, neighbors and everyone she met. She was always offering help, hope and healing to people facing various challenges.
Ruby loved life with a passion and was deeply involved with life. She was a strong woman and great servant of God and of people. She was actively involved in so many facets of life and organizations that helped to impact the lives of people, the Church and the Kingdom of God. She was a strong family leader, church leader, a community leader and civil rights leader. She met and worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on three occasions. She was very involved in the political arena, which concluded with voting for the first African American President of the United States. She was a member of the Dillon County Branch of the NAACP and became a Silver Life Member of the National NAACP in May 2008.
Ruby was Past Matron of Wonder Chapter #377 OES, Dillon, South Carolina and became a 50 Year Member in 2011. She was Senior Matron of Ovella Tent #71, Dillon, South Carolina. She was President of Peoples Benevolent Society #139, Hamer, South Carolina where she was a member for over 60 years. She was employed at Wix Corporation for a number of years. She was also employed by the Hamer Head Start Program for 27 years from December 16, 1985 until her retirement on July 13, 2012. She received the South Carolina Staff of the Year Award in 2003, the Region IV Head Start Association Staff of the Year Award in 2004 and the National Head Start Association Staff of the Year Award in 2004 in Anaheim, California.  
Family members who preceding her from this life were: Adolphus (Father), Artie (Mother), one sister, Alberta, four brothers, Marvin, Allen, Howard and Monroe.
Ruby leaves to cherish fond memories: her son, Leon D. Page, Sr; and a special daughter-in-law, Ann, of Elgin, South Carolina; her daughter, Ruby “Debbie” Page of the home; her sisters, Addie Blue Williams of Marietta, North Carolina and Mary Eva Stevenson of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; four special grandchildren, Leon, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia, Jennifer of Atlanta, Georgia, Joshua of Newport News, Virginia and Eboni of Woodbridge, Virginia; two special great-grandchildren, Jailah and Kenyatta of Newport News, Virginia; two special step-sons, James “Cotton” Ford of Fairmont, North Carolina and Kenneth Page of Cedar Grove, North Carolina; a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; three special caregivers, Liza Williams, Lucille Murphy and Cecelia “Jeannine” Cousar.
Ruby, all who knew you, will miss your beautiful smile, soft-spoken voice, pleasant disposition and helping hand, which were all character traits that set you apart from others and endeared you to many. We will truly miss you, but we will cherish many wonderful memories. Enjoy being in Heaven in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ and we will keep seeking Him, living for Him and serving Him until we who believe and trust in Him will join you, the Heavenly host and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
