Flashes Shut Down Gators 11-1, 7-2

The Johnsonville Flashes defeated the Lake View Wild Gators in both varsity baseball and softball on Thursday night in Johnsonville, with the Gators falling 11-1 in five innings and the Lady Gators falling 7-2.

In baseball action, Johnsonville took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, with Lake View scoring in the top of the third to trail 3-1. But the Flashes added two runs in the bottom of the inning, and held off the Gators while adding three runs each in the fourth and fifth for the win.

Johnsonville’s Josh Stone earned the win on the mound, pitching all five innings for five hits, one run, and two outs. Lake View’s Weston Rogers took the loss, pitching three innings for seven hits, six runs, five earned runs, two walks, and two outs.

At bat for the Flashes, Jay Newell went 3-for-4 with two double sand three RBI; Cory Cooper went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI; and Jacob Prosser went 3-for-3. The Flashes had 12 hits and two errors in the win.

At bat for Lake View, Weston Rogers went 1-for-2 with one RBI. The Gators had five hits and three errors in the effort.

Johnsonville improved to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in Region 8-A while Lake View slipped to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the region.

In softball action, the Lady Flashes took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning and added three more runs in the fifth, and two in the sixth for a 7-0 lead. The Lady Gators added both of their runs in the top of the seventh to end the game at 7-2.

Johnsonville’s Savanna Young got the win, pitching seven innings for four hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, and four outs. Lake View’s Morgan Herlong took the loss, pitching five innings for seven hits, five runs, four earned runs, one walk, and six outs.

Maelyn Thompson led the Flashes at bat, going 3-for-3 with a double. Shay Morris went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI; and Marley Young went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. The Lady Flashes had seven hits in the win.

Marissa Tyndall, Kayce Wong, and Ally Spivey each went 1-for-3 for the Wild Gators. Lake View had four hits in the effort.

Johnsonville’s Lady Flashes improved to 10-3 and 7-1 in Region 8-A. Lake View slipped to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the region.

Lake View is scheduled to travel to Green Sea Floyds tonight for baseball action and will be at home on Wednesday to host South Robeson. The Lady Gators were scheduled to be at Marion on Monday and at Green Sea-Floyds tonight.
