Sara Alice Carmichael McLeod

Sara Alice Carmichael McLeod, 92, died Friday, April 4, 2014 in Dillon, SC. Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m.., Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Main Street United Methodist Church with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon.
Mrs. McLeod was born in the Kentyre Community of Dillon County, October 1, 1921, the daughter of the late Neil C. and Alice F. McCain Carmichael. She was the widow of Judge William J. McLeod.  She graduated Winthrop College and taught English in Dillon and Marlboro High Schools.
Her activities as a member at Main Street United Methodist Church included the Eulalia Cook Circle, Builders Sunday School Class, Sunday School Teacher for many years, United Methodist Women, Worship Committee, Pastor-Parish Committee, and the Administration Board.
Her many civic organizations included membership and past president of the Dillon Garden Club, Charter member of the Palmetto Cabinet, Junior Charity League, and St. Eugene Hospital Auxiliary.
She was also a member of The Cotillion Club of Dillon, Friends of State Museum, Caroliniana Society, and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Governor Dick Riley appointed her to the Dillon County Historic Preservation Commission.
She is survived by her son, William James McLeod, Jr. (Gayle) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Martha Alice McLeod of Dillon, SC; grandchildren, James Tyler Lee, Jr., Esquire (Cari Kepner), William McLeod Lee, William James McLeod, III, Emily Kathryn McLeod, and Sara Ellen McLeod; great grandchild, Susanna McLeod Lee; sister-in-law, Christine Carmichael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
